This is probably our go-to Japanese restaurant in our 'hood. Nothing but the freshest sushi, one after another made by expert chefs right in front of us at the bar. All the dishes come out beautiful looking and tasting. We heard one time that they fly in their fish daily from Japan, don't know if it's true but it is fresh. We've been there half a dozen times and we are impressed by the quality. I've lived years in Japan and find this sushi to be as good as it gets. Arigato, Daigo, for doing the best you can to bring us good sushi for fair prices.

Same as Panda Express, Yes, the same level. WTF? Because this place is NOT traditional at all. 100% Chinese, piece of shit. Shit-Chinese-Sushi here. Knows Nothing, not even close. Anyone can slice red tuna and put it on a rice ball. Is that Sushi? WTF? Why using your point finger and thumb to make a Nigiri? WTF? Where did you learn making Sushi? Chinatown? HAVE YOU EVER DONE IT? May be you've never done it. WTF? That was what I was thinking when I saw the man making Nigiri right front of me at the Daigo Sushi. Interesting, most of the reviews are very positive. That's why I wanted to try. But,.... I made a big mistake. THE MOST UNSATISFIED SUSHI EVER HAD!!! SHIT!!! That's right, it was SHIT!!! I'll call it SUSHIT. One of the worst Sushi I have ever had. Well, there are many bad Pseudo-Sushi in SF. I was the only customer when I was there little after 5pm. I ordered Sapporo draft. And Saba Nigiri, that I always have for my 1st Sushi, because I can tell that how the Sushi-Chef prepare Saba, mackerel. Each Sushi-Chef has very different way of preparing Saba. After I ordered Beer and Nigiri, I went to bathroom to wash my hands. When I came back, the man in the counter who suppose to be Sushi-Chef, was peeling off Saba Skin out of a plastic bag that you can buy a prepared Saba from a Japanese market. Then I knew, the man didn't really have proper Sushi training before, or he may not been Japan even, because Saba is very basic and important Sushi-item for Japan's Sushi world. There is no Sushi-Chef use already prepared Saba from a Japanese market. No one. Maybe I am the first person who ordered Saba here. No one else had ordered Saba in the Daigo Sushi before. This is not the right way to serve Sushi professionally. I still remember that the man who thinks he is Sushi-Chef, his face was stunned when I odered red Saba. His face was like, "Holly mackerel !" And most of all, I could tell that his hands movements were not really coordinating when he was handling Shari (sushi-rice) and Neta ( sliced raw fish). He looked really awkward making Nigiri. Shari was way too small. So tiny! The Shari was only 1 inch long, That's it! I ended up having Saba and Maguro. 4 piece of Nigiri, I ate them within 30 seconds. The Saba was so dry, the Maguro was so lame, the Shari wasn't good. I did waste 15 bucks, but I did try to manage my damages by getting minimum. I was there for very short time, maybe the shortest I have ever been in a Sushi bar. I wanted to get out of there as fast as I could. So I did. It was that bad. No offense but 100% Chinese. I am pretty sure that he hasn't been in Japan having real Sushi there. Disappointed, Very Much! Usually, I am pretty good and well manage my feeling of having pseudo Sushi but this time, must be different because I just got back from Japan and having a real thing. I was there for a month. I had real good Sushi in Japan. I don't think I'll go back. I am still very angry for having such an unsatisfied Sushi. I do not recommend to any of my friends, period.

Best sushi I've ever had! Sublimely presented and delicious. Discrete, courteous service and the price is right for the quality of the food. I've walked past this place a hundred times, but it will now be one of my go-to places in the neighborhood. Get the sampler dishes, you won't be disappointed. Nice sake list as well.

DELICIOUS as always. They are now my go to Sushi spot. Uni was soo excellent this week. I was told it was brought in from Japan so it cost a little be more than their usual price. I live close enough to order delivery, which is turning into a dangerous thing. I always feel like sushi but my husband is a "I need to be in the mood for it" type person. So the delivery makes it so easy for me to satisfy a one person craving for sushi without having to drag my husband into the equation. Their delivery service is quick and no extra charge! For people who don't like talking to humans on the phone now there's an online delivery option, but I think there's an extra charge for that. Online only has their basic menu so you miss out on all the special fresh market stuff that fluctuates.Their specials are always excellent so I highly recommend calling instead.

This place is great! All the rolls are so fresh, not at all fishy. The actual restaurant is small and clean. They are quick to fill up your water and the wait staff are so friendly. oh, and they play fun pop music. Very pleased! We will be back to try something off their huge selection of sake

I came here for dinner with 5 friends 3 weeks ago. We didn't have a reservation and didn't expect this place to be this small. We arrived around 8 and this place was packed. We waited at least an hour n half to be seated. The food was amazing!!! We had tons of sashimi, rolls, I had the best shrimp tempura ever! Food was very fresh and well decorated. The owner was very nice and gave us free appetizer and sashimi since we waited outside for so long. Well, definitely worth the wait! Ice cream was just another plus! I didn't like the ginger one but loved the sesame. This is so far the best sushi spot in the city. We all loved it. I would definitely come back again!

I went here back in March when I was visiting a friend. I'm not a big sushi person, but we had a yelp coupon and he thought we should try it out. I was very impressed. The sushi was delicious and because of my great experience here I really want to eat it more often! I couldn't tell you what I got since it's all sushi to me, but I know I got the green tea ice cream free for checking in on yelp. Oh, and one last thing. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. It was weird.

My husband and I found Daigo on yelp, and decided to give it a shot. Daigo has amazing nigiri and rolls at very reasonable prices. All of the fish were fresh and high quality. We sat at the bar so we could look at all the yummy fish through the window. Our food came out quickly and in a good progression. Our nigiri was pre-seasoned and had amazing attention to detail. The owner, the sushi chefs were all extremely friendly and wanted us to have a great experience. I highly recommend Daigo, and hope they do well.

Visiting San Fran from LA, yelp led us to this place and were glad it did! The Hamachi shots were amazing. The dragon roll was delicious. Service was GREAT. Will definitely eat here every time we visit.

YAY!!! Jolene L. and I tried out a new sushi place nearby for dinner. We got in just as it opened and we got tea serviced quickly. The decor is very calm, and the music is soft and jazzy. There are several tables and a sushi counter for those who want to see the chefs go do their sushi magic. I got my usual order of Dragon Roll and a side order of the special uni *fresh from Fort Bragg*. My Dragon Roll was beautifully presented and clean...no sauce drenched everywhere. The unagi portions were nicely portioned and the tempura ebi inside the roll was crispy and fresh! My first time eating a super crispy tempura...they usually end up semi-mushy at other places. Everything tasted clean and well seasoned. I liked my uni maki. They were deliciously fresh and with a hint of wasabi on the top. Jolene got the maguro sashimi (nice!), and the negihama roll..both looked clean and super fresh. Service was friendly and nice...and we got constant refills on free tea. I never felt rushed and it's a great place to relax and chat awhile. We inquired about the yelp deal we couldn't purchase online prior to coming, and they were gracious enough to give us a $15 discount on our meal. Sweet!!! A great addition to the neighborhood and the parking around is free but you really have to be patient to find a spot.

Another Chinese owned Japanese sushi joint trying to make a easy buck. Chefs barely know how to hold a knife let alone use one. If you like your sushi cut to look like chunks of meat at a slaughter house, Daigo is the place to go! And the name "Daigo", I seriously hope they didn't name their restaurant after a Street Fighter world champion because that would do the real Daigo a disservice.

  • Miranda B.

I haven't taken the time to review daigo yet because I am extremely selfish and absolutely don't want this secret gem to be exploited. This city is full of restaurants with lines out the door or 2 hr waits. Realistically this sushi spot should be one of those restaurants. Luckily it's fairly quiet, and of the four times we have been here we have only ever had to wait 15min. There isn't much in terms of cooked food, but the fish is fresh and the service/chefs are legit. Please don't come here. But if you are a sushi die hard like I am, nothing is stopping you.

Wasn't offered bar seats; but a pair arriving after us were. Cuts of fish were uneven, ragged, and just showed glaring lack of knife skills. Rice tasted old and a bit dry. Water was never refilled until the near end of the meal. Fish quality was just a small step above Kitaro/Kiki's, but way pricier. If they had actually taken our order sooner and given us the check sooner, our whole meal from entrance to exit would have literally been 20 minutes. Our order came out a lightning fast 5 minutes after placing it... which I'm not sure was a good or bad thing considering overall; maybe a bit of both. I will say the the uni in our nigiri sampler was pleasantly good, but nothing earth shattering. $67 for two and we were still hungry. Despite living mere blocks away and being walking distance, I'll have to pass on a return trip. Note: I think it's kinda funny that the same day I posted this not-so-stellar review; 2 great ones pop up to counter balance the rating. I think Petri Y.'s notion is correct; there are at least five reviews from yelpers here that only have 1-2 max reviews; a couple from out of state. Pretty suspect.

What a place. REAL sushi! I strongly recommend the Hamachi Shots. Comparable if not better than Alexanders. They were still working kinks from their temp. menu, but I will sure be back. Food: 5 stars for being fresh Service: 5 stars for educating us on all the fresh fish they had, and the sake selection.

Simply put: one of the BEST traditional sushi joints in San Francisco, with friendly, attentive staff, fresh fish, gorgeous food, and warm ambiance. Sit at the bar at Daigo, keep your ears open, and you'll soon realize that everyone's a regular. Go more than once, and Jeff the manager/host will remember not only your face, but where you last sat AND what sake you enjoyed. Give Eric behind the sushi bar a few pointers about what you like, and then give him free reign to pick and choose the specials of the day for you. We like to order about 1/3 of our meal, then leave the rest to him. His choices are superb, creative, and result in a carefully balanced meal. Daigo manages to excel in both the ultra traditional (homemade ankimo, some of the most tender you'll find in SF) and elegantly nouveau (truffled hamachi shots, unexpected yet delicious). Finally, my longing for the sushi houses of Los Angeles is subsiding.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal tonight at Daigo. Everything was awesome; the fish was perfectly fresh, the menu was large enough to contain variety but not so large I was overwhelmed, and the wait staff was very friendly! My order included the baked salmon, Naruto, and spicy tuna roll, and salmon and tuna nigiri. I ordered so much food and could not eat it all fast enough! I know it looks like I ordered a lot and you're probably thinking, "wow, the portions must be really small." No, that's not true; I went for a long run today and whenever I run I feel like I can eat the world after wards. The prices were fair, too. I like how you can sit at the bar and talk to the sushi chefs. They're pretty knowledgeable and will answer any and all questions you may have about what they're doing etc etc. I was particularly intrigued by how much sushi they prepare in such a short amount of time; I was even more mesmerized when I saw both sushi chefs taking out a blow torch and flaming the raw fish! So cool! My advice would be to arrive before 7pm as that's when it starts to get busy (and since it's a small restaurant you want to be there early). Bring your cell phone; if you check in on Yelp you get a free ice cream! Overall great find in the city, I'm literally planning my next visit.

Honestly some of the best sushi I've ever had. Super fresh melt in your mouth type of fish and overall ingredients. Some really unique rolls. My friend and I couldn't stop ordering more. Plus the environment is super cozy, not too small not too big. Good for intimate dates or catching up with a couple friends.

Food: 5 (Everything is fresh; tried nigiri only) Service: 5 (Attentive and friendly) Decor and atmosphere: 3 (Cozy and comfortable) Noise level: 5 (Not noisy) The night we went, the daily specials that we tried were the mackerel (wild aji), blue shrimp, and tuna belly. Everything was oyshi (delicious). We liked that we didn't have to use soy sauce at all (like in Jiro Dreams of Sushi). Didn't try any desserts. Pricey, but would definitely return.

I have been to Daigo sushi several times and every single time has been a stellar experience...except for last night. This review is based purely on the service of my Friday date night. My boyfriend and I had made a reservation wayy in advance for 8:15pm, knowing this place is very small and gets packed fast. The first three times we had been here, we never made a reservation and each time, we had always waited at least 20 minutes to get a table. It is 8:12pm, we stroll into the restaurant and what do ya know?? There are lots of tables. Two 4-seaters and two 2-seaters. The owner of the restaurant (totally forgot his name, he has given me his business card before) comes up to us and asks how many in our party. My boyfriend says, "2, but we have a reservation." The owner directs us to a crappy ass, tiny table against the wall, and mind you, there is a large, protruding column built into the wall, and the table practically on top of the table right next to us (in other words, very close to the next table). We ask the owner if we can get another table instead, like this nice 4-seater near the door or the other 4-seater against the wall. He says, well these tables are for 4 people and you are 2 people. Thanks, but we aren't stupid...we know we are 2 people. So he directs us to the sad little table against the wall/column. Alright... So we get seated and my boyfriend's right arm is literally up against this built-in column...we look sadly uncomfortable. We aren't huge people but we were literally sitting at a kids table, up against the wall. What really really gets me pissed is that a party of 2 shows up 10 minutes after us and gets seated at that 4-seater against the wall, the table we could've gotten seated at. I know FOR A FACT that they did not have a reservation, because the man said he did not have a reservation. I'm fuming. AND THEN, another party of 2 gets seated at the 4-seater next to the door. WTF?!? (Btw, the table next to the door had a reserved sign on it, but I didn't see 4 people sitting there). At this point, I'm about to go up to the owner and slap him. My boyfriend and I had a really crappy dining experience because we were very uncomfortable the whole night. We had a reservation and everything and the owner still did us dirty. I thought we used to be homies, but we aren't anymore :( Granted, the food is always good, but it will take a long time to get your food. I got the albacore belly last night it was pretty amazing and luscious. The belly ALMOST made up for crappy service. Just a word of advice, maybe Daigo sushi should move that sad little table so it's not next to the wall column. It will probably make for happier customers who aren't jabbing their right arms against the column while using their chopsticks -_-

Back into the foray of writing reviews and I start with one of my favorite 2012 cuisines, Japanese! I've passed by this restaurants several times as I head to Hard Knox for a fried chicken. The reason I always pass by was due to the amount of Yelp stars. After new ownership, I decided to come and try this establishment out as it had stellar review albeit a low amount. I'm glad I chose to come because all the sashimi was fresh and I especially enjoyed the Amaebi ( sweet shrimp) and Hamachi Kama( Yellowtail Collar bone). Food Highlight: Hamachi Kama

12.09.27 First Visit Food 4 1/2 (5 stars are reserved for world class level let alone 4 1/2 is rare ... to be accurate in rating if I give this place 5 stars ... what will be for Nobu ... and other world class sushi joints?) Service 5 Very attentive yet not hovering over. You might say it it easy for new restaurant starting out and not filled ... not true for all new restaurants. First thing I noticed that was unique ... real laquered chopsticks not the wishbone type where u have to split it apart. It never occured to me in the past high end sushi places I had visited have expensive artisinal ceramic ware ... yet the provide us with basic disposable chopsticks. Next ... the wasabi ... when mixing I noticed there were REAL chunks ... the last time I had real wasabi was at the (old Hamano ... previous owner the offered it at the request of my friend's japanese girlfriend) Less than 1% sushi restaurant offer REAL WASABI .... try it and you will taste the difference! It is more expensive to have the real thing ... hell ... it doesn't have the chemically taste of the cheaper counterpart! There have been huge sushi restaurant rush this year. This place stands out more than the ones that I had visited so far (I have posted only less than 1% of the restaurants I had visited ... too much and not enough time to post or nothing significant to post or ( I did not like.... I tried to not post places that was bad ... I only do so if the owner was new and strike me as willing to change and grow ... the comment and advice are there for them to correct. My goal is contribute in making this city surpass ALL other city in cullinary on quality, advancement, creativity, and all other aspect. Tire of hearing NY, LA, Seattle, and etc bragging and putdowns.) After eating and talking to one of the owner ... I can see great potential in the place. This place is already very good at its limited selections. The attention to the details of place, food, dinnerware, utensils, wasabi, tea, sushi, and many other things. The menu was a little quirky ... we were politely said it was ok...he said he still want to improve it. This shows he does not stay with status quo ... he always strive to imrpove ... a great sign of a good restaurant owner. Even the ice cream were carefully chosen. The ginger ice cream was a killer. more to come ... after the next visit.

I wasn't impressed when this was Sakura.. My friends told me to try this place again now that it was under new management, and I'm glad I took their advice. My dragon roll was pretty good.. The rice was freshly cooked, not dry like before. I got mine to go, but I'll definitely stick around. The sushi chef looked like a cool guy to talk to.

Best sushi I've had in San Francisco. They created this place in about 3 weeks after the old restaurant closed, and they did a fantastic job. One of the owners stopped by to talk to us several times, and he was awesome and incredibly nice. Everything was fantastic: the sushi (ocean trout, escolar, quail egg and monkfish liver, plus rainbow roll and spider roll), the drinks (some special plum sake, and Asahi on draft!) and the dessert (sesame and green tea ice cream!). It was amazing. I'll definitely be back.

I'll be honest, I came here with no expectations only because I had a Yelp discount that I wanted to use. Well our very first visit was AMAZING!! The sushi was fresh and the owners and wait staff were pretty awesome to chat with. We left knowing that we definitely would be coming back again real soon. Well our second time there was pretty shocking, this time we were surprised with a bill that kind of floored us. We ordered a bottle of sake but was told that they ran out so instead the owner suggested a different bottle. We didn't' ask for the price because who would've thought that it was going to cost $250!!!!! And it wasn't even the largest bottle that they had either! The sake was good but not that great. Again the food was amazing but wish we were told ahead of time what the prices were before ordering the sake bottle. Well we decided to come back the 3rd time, and this time it was a little disappointing. For some reason the sushi didn't seem as fresh and consistent as before. We ordered the same as before and they seemed a bit different. This time we didn't finish all our dishes as we usually do which is unfortunate because that's money down the drain. I still have to give them 4 stars because the service was always top notch and our first two experiences were great, besides the surprise of the sake price on our bill. I think we'll give them another shot (after I'm no longer pregnant and can eat sushi again) because we do like the owners and the staff, just hope that the food will be back to where it used to be when they first opened.

Can I just tell you I've been like 20 times. Sometimes even back to back. Being a professional cook/chef, I Have a pretty good idea of what fresh fish should taste like and THIS IS IT. Im pretty close to a sushi addict...may even need to get therapy for it. Hahaha. This place is So good and its not super highly priced as i would have expected after having my first few pieces of nigiri and tasting the freshness. And Erik and Jesse are great owners and really treat their customers well. That also has to do with me coming back so frequently.I love this place. Love it. And it's just two blocks away. Lucky me. Thank you daigo. Highly recommended. I'll be seeing you guys in a few days!!!!!

Ambiance- Cute little sushi restaurant on Clement. It's a great place for dates but I wouldn't bring a whole party here because of it's small space. It's well decorated and most importantly clean. Food - The ankimo here is delicious, super fresh and the presentation is fantastic. My favorite roll was the Tokyo Cowboy Roll "Tempura scallion, shiitake, seared filet mignon and tataki sauce." It was my first time trying a meat roll. The filet mignon was perfect, tender and it came with a dipping sauce that brings out it's flavor. Service - It was packed the night I went so I could understand why it was slow. The staff was very professional and well mannered.

If you're in the Richmond and your in need of sushi this is your spot. Really great selection of fish - just ask Eric the chef to choose for you and you won't go wrong. In addition to really good nigiri (uni, toro, hirame, kanpachi, iwashi, engawa, the list goes on) the classics are also great - california rolls, etc. There's a yummy trumpet mushroom tempura appetizer with truffle salt and specials each evening.

This is the best maki I've had. Not much of a seaweed lover, I usually find sushi to taste too much of the sea. This place is run by folks who take pride in every aspect of their food service. For example. Our very sweet and knowledgeable server, Jesse, gently taught us about sake, different sashimi and generally made us feel so welcome. They make their own soy sauce, which is delicious and the cucumber and avocado rolls I had melted in my mouth! My sweetie's California roll and ikura he said were the best he's ever had! Jesse you have blown our minds!

I love going to Daigo. The best sushi I've had in SF (so far). It's a little place and does get pretty busy after 9 on the weekends. The service is always good and the food is great. I go at least once a month.

I HEART DIAGO SUSHI! Eric, one of the owners/sushi chef, does something magical with his rice. House made soy sauce? Amazing. Seared filet mignon was served with micro greens, thin sliced onions, and a light soy miso vin of sorts. I would have ordered another order of it, if I hadn't ordered so much to start with. Abaebi, so sweet, and Eric's rice counters it perfectly. REAL WASABI!! No joke! The real stuff, that no other sushi joint serves. Yan, the waitress is one of the most patient women I've met. She explained ever type of sake I asked about, she's knowledgable about beer pairings, and never made me feel silly about asking questions. Jessie, one of the owners, was super nice and did a couple shots of sake to welcome us to his restaurant. I can't wait to go back!

Great sushi and sake, don't expect to eat combination dinners or bento boxes here, this is a legit sushi place. They have the classics, and some with a bit of modern twist to it. Definitely as must try for dinner or even lunch. The service is pretty awesome and makes you feel like home.

Very good service and really good sushi! So much so, that I think this is my favorite new sushi place in SF. The place is not very big, but the setting is nice and the small size kind of adds to the charm. The menu is simple and all of the fish is very fresh tasting.

Have been here twice and it's been excellent each time. Recommend the nigiri taster abd any if the specialty roll. Small place but quick service. We'll definitely be coming back many times.

Daigo is different from other sushi places I've tried in that they don't use a lot of sauces but at the same time still tastes amazing! Their salmon and tuna are very fresh. For someone who's not really a fan of avocados in sushi, they changed my mind. Everything was in perfect balance. Plus the workers there are extremely nice and friendly.

We went there yesterday for the first time because we love Japanese cuisine and this place was recommended by others. We ordered miso soup, seaweed salad and edamame for appetizers. They brought the miso soup first and it was not very good. The soup had very little taste (I think they did not add enough miso). Worst of all, it was lukewarm! Little did I know that the miso soup was a precursor for things to come.... The seaweed salad came next and I thought it was excellent...that is until my sister said that the reason it tasted so good because they used tons of sesame seed oil to flavor it (which is very high in fat and not good for you). The edamame was good but the portion was small (it came in a small bowl). For our main course we ordered a spicy tuna roll, a caterpillar roll and a yellow tail nigiri sushi. The caterpillar roll was awful, the eel was not fresh, the pieces that I got were the worst cut possible and they didn't prepare the eel correctly (there were still some bones from the eel that they didn't remove). Also, the cucumber inside the caterpillar roll was hard as rock. I've never had cucumber in sushi that was that hard before. Cucumber should be crunchy and juicy. The spicy tuna roll tasted like sushi that you would get from Safeway. The fish was way too salty. The yellow tail nigiri came last. The tiny piece of yellow tail (nigiri) looked limp and beat up, like a victim of a road kill--it was not at all healthy looking nor very appetizing to look at! I thought that the portion size of the fish on all of our sushi seemed undersized, smaller in comparison to the size of fish served at other sushi restaurants. Finally, the rice in the sushi fell apart as I tried to pick it with my chopsticks. The dinner was way too pricey for what we ordered (almost $100 including the tip for four adults). We only ordered four miso soups, three seaweed salads, one edamame, three sushi rolls (my father only had the tofu salad), two $5 draft beers (which were great) and two desserts. Overall, the small portions and the quality of the fish was definitely not worth $100! And yes, we left hungry! The service was excellent and lots of parking on Clement Street. Bring lots of quarters, though because 25 cents buys you only 6 minutes! We went to Daigo Sushi because of the great Yelp reviews and because of other friend's recommendations. I will not go back there...there are just too many other fantastic sushi restaurants in the Bay Area.

Best sushi I have had in SF so far. Not only was the fish selection insanely fresh and wide, the sushi chef knew how to bring the best flavor out of the fish, e.g. smoking, torching, touching it up with all different kind of source, etc etc. I'm very glad that we went for the Omakaze, and let the chef recommend what was the best that evening. Note though this is a place for quality not quantity. May be that's why I didn't see a long line. Can't wait to go back!

I love their rolls, they're very fresh and super yummy. We had the Naruto, Hanabi, Baked Salmon, Super White and Tokyo Cowboy rolls. I loved them all, and my super picky friend loved them too. Well, we loved all of them except for the Super White. We also had the Moriawase Sashimi. That was good too.

Love this place! Great sushi, good prices, friendly staff - everything you could want in a sushi restaurant. They are quick with to-go orders, too. If you are in the area and looking for sushi, go here over other nearby options and you won't be sorry.

As fresh as fish comes in the bay. And not too overpriced.

delicious. we shared a bunch of things for dinner and really enjoyed everything. we had the hamachi carpaccio, the naruto roll, the unakyu roll, and a daily special roll which for sure had tempura green onion and saba. everything was so good and the fish was so fresh. I thought the naruto roll was the real standout- a great combination of super fresh fish with sauce and no rice. yum. service was excellent and also quite speedy. I will absolutely come back here for sushi.

good sushi, good beer. Ice cream was good. Nothing out of this world, though. Like every other good sushi place.

The food is superb. I love the nigiri sushi and the sashimi. Very fresh and with reasonable prices for the quality. I've been here a couple of times with friends and the server is very friendly, but both times, he was working by himself and when it got busy, it seemed he was running around, trying to keep up. I've also ordered the tataki and sweet potato fries appetizers and the non-sushi dishes are just as delicious. It is a little cramped so if it's packed, it's not a very comfortable place to eat. But otherwise, I really enjoyed eating here.

This maybe the best Sushi in SF right now. Sublime, beautiful, amazing.

I ordered take out rolls. HORRIBLE. weird, tasteless and scariest of all, a little warm.

Hands down the best sushi place in SF if you're considering both value and taste. By sushi, I'm not talking about rolls, I'm talking about nigiri and sashimi. The chefs were masterful and each cut of fish looked like art and tasted like heaven. See my photos (they will do this review justice). I would highly recommend sitting at the bar, chatting with him to get his take on the day's freshest fish, or just doing the omakase altogether. Great selection of Japanese beers and sakes as well. This has definitely become my go-to spot for great sushi.

I think this place is overrated. The sashimi is obviously very fresh, GOOD quality. Lots of unique fish that you wouldn't find in most common Japanese restaurants - Like Walu, escolar, ocean trout (O.O Search me). Tried the Naruto roll - Eh. the mix of raw fish inside the roll was delicious, but the roll wrapped in a ribbon of soft cucumber, and that was...disgusting..to put it mildly, haha. Wouldn't get again, I'm just not a cucumber-on-the-outside-of-a-roll fan. My dad and I got the hamachi shots after seeing all the comments about their hamachi shots on this Yelp page -YUM. DELICIOUS. its so good..the mix of raw fish, ponzu sauce and whatever else they put in there just gives you a one mouthful shot of delicious, different tastes that meld beautifully together - bit of a crunchy texture from whatever, I didn't know, but it was wonderfull. Also ordered 3 different types of sashimi - 5 pieces of sashim is one order, and the price ranged from 9 to 12 for just 5 pieces of sashimi, depending on the type. Also ordered two bowls of sushi rice - delicious, sticky sushi rice with a light topping of black sesame seeds. A nice refreshing change from steaming white rice. I've come here twice, both around 5pm, and the restaurant was pretty much empty both times. Would come back for their sashimi - a different change from standard tuna and salmon - and their sticky sushi rice. Would consider this place more for a snack rather than dinner.

Love this sushi place! Fresh, quality ingredients. Friendly staff. Right in the neighborhood. Really couldn't ask for more! They deliver as well, and there's a coupon in the restaurant for online orders, but I couldn't get it to work.

We come to Daigo for their nigiri. They have a lot of nicely priced nigiri options and tasty specials each day. Their sushi is incredibly fresh and delicious, and they put garnishes and sauces on the nigiri that make it taste even better! They also have pretty good sake options and are willing to help you find one if you know very little about sake :) The service was pretty fast for a Saturday night, and orders came out pretty soon, even as we ordered multiple times during the meal. One thing you must try here: the hamachi shots! They're a tasty mix of hamachi (fish), quail egg, and truffle oil among other things. My only complaint about Daigo is that they can run out of the good stuff (I.e, toro) if you come late. But there's plenty of other delicious options to make up for it! Overall, delicious nigiri and good service. Will be coming back here and looking forward to it!

Deliciousness in a small corner restaurant. Staff is extremely friendly as it was my first time dining. We had the naruti, Tokyo cowboy, creamy scallops, sashimi sampler and a few off of the today's specials. Everything was just so divine and fresh and has great texture. Will definitely recommend this place to everyone.

Every time we come in here the fish is perfect. As I said before, always interesting things that I've not seen/tasted in other places. Lovely service, the guys are super nice. As a bonus, they brought us a slice of their green tea cheese cake. I am normally not a dessert person but this was freakin' fantastic!!! Cheesecake is one of the few sweets I eat (how did they know?) and now I'll always be saving a special spot just for one small piece.

Came here to try some find sushi dining. Parking is plentiful on the streets. The place is definitely quite upscale, so you know it's going to be expensive. In other words, be prepared to leave hungry. Their rolls are unique, but their ingredients are VERY fresh. We tried a variety of rolls, and all of them were quite good. One last thing - if you check in, you get free ice cream. Yay!

Overrated and expensive. I'm not sure why it has such amazing reviews. The fish/sushi was fresh and beautifully plated, however after spending $60 I was still hungry. There are better spots in SF where you can have the same quality of sushi/sashimi if not better for a fraction of the price. It's also a bit pretentious for what it is, Tekka's not even that pretentious!

I am not that choosy about Sushi( I hear the gasps and laughs) as some that I read their yelp reviews....I mean there are some amazingly knowledgeable sushi yelpers...you know who you are. Diago Sushi did not blow me away...I did love the beer that I ordered (Hitachino White Ale is pure heaven) but the fish was very mediocre. I actually did not feel it was that fresh. To be honest I only had the rolls...but I had a very good assortment of them with many different pieces of fish. Tuna was eh. The Hamachi was so so. Snow crab was okay. Eel was so so. I also felt the make of the rolls was just okay...loosely composed. Service is very good and very friendly. It is a small sushi bar with maybe 20 seats total. In a city with loads of sushi restaurants....I dont know.

The best sushi of my life. Each piece of sushi was unbelievably flavorful. Fresh cuts that were clearly carefully sourced. If you love sushi, you won't want to miss the cuts here! So yeah, it's good.

I decided to take my friend here after reading all the rave reviews about this place. My thoughts on the appetizers and rolls: Seafood Salad - light, refreshing, and fresh Hamachi Carpaccio - was good, nothing to die for Baked Salmon Roll - good, but nothing mindblowing Tokyo Cowboy Roll - interesting roll but otherwise really have no strong opinion of it. found the roll to be too chewy Rainbow Roll - fresh fish, probably the best out of the rice rolls that we've ordered Naruto Roll - very fresh and refreshing. enjoyed this roll the most I'd probably give 3 stars for the appetizers and rolls. while they were all good, they weren't anything that I haven't tried before. however, my friend and I ordered a few nigiris (Unagi, Binnaga, Hotate, and Maguro) and thought they were outstanding. loved how some of the fish just melted in my mouth. would recommend daigo if you're less into rolls and more into sashimi and nigiri.

I came here for the yelp deal. I was a bit skeptical, as I some earlier reviews stuck a paranoid bug, that some of these reviews have been fabricated to offset negative reviews. I can assure you, that the stars are well deserved. I made a reservation, but ended up not needing it. There were people, but it wasn't full at all. There are 5 tables that seat 4, and like 3 tables that seat 2. There is also bar seating. The lighting is warm (yellow), and there is soft jazz playing in the background. Easy to have a conversation and talk normally. We were given menus and served complimentary hot tea. I have been fasting, and this was my meal to break my fast, so naturally, I wanted to binge. The waiter was great at explaining things to us, introducing the alcohols, and just very attentive and super nice. When I ordered Himachi Kama, he had to go to the back to check to make sure they had some. Here is what I ordered for two: (chilled) Dewazakura Sake Sampler for $15: ---"Oka" - Cherry Bouquet - This was my favourite sake from the sampler. I'm not a big fan of sake, but this one was great! Didn't have too much of the sake flavour. Strong floral and melon aroma. ---"Dewasansan" - Green Ridge - Tasted very tart apple-y just as the description says. This one is also pretty light, and doesn't have too much of a sake taste ---"Izumi Judan" - Tenth Degree - I'm reading the description right now, and it's fairly accurate. I was going to compare this to a gin. It's very dry, again, doesn't have too much of the hot sake flavour. Definitely a dry drink. It was okay. Tasted more like alcohol than the other ones. Himachi Shots $6 (per shot) - Onion, quail egg, truffle ponzu; We got two. These were super delicious. The combination of everything was great and it was flavourful, but not overwhelmingly so. Just right! This was a great way to start the food. Moriawase Sashimi $22 - tuna, hamachi, salmon, binnaga (albacore tuna), walu (escolar); (2 pieces of each); This was a great price for this sashimi. The cuts were consistent and precise. The fish were fresh. The decor was super cute! Baked Salmon Roll $12 - Baked CA roll topped with salmon, spicy mayo; This roll was definitely a big step up from eating sashimi... flavour wise. It packed a lot of flavour without being drenched in too much sauce. Definitely a delicious dish, and I'd like to try some of the other rolls. Hitachino Kest $10 - This beer was definitely delicious, and I've never heard of it... however, when it was brought out, I definitely saw this at bevmo before. $10 for this beer is a bit steep, get it at bevmo. Himachi Kama $14 - We ordered the last one! :) I have a friend from NY who loves this dish, and I've eaten it once with her, but it was overcooked and dry. I had low expectations, but it came out amazing. The outside was crispy with about a quarter inch cooked fish, leaving the inside and bone rare. This came out perfect and I was extremely impressed. Odd that this is an appetizer but it came out last. Sesame Ice Cream FREE! - Check in on Yelp! and get a free ice cream. I let my friend pick the flavour (green tea, sesame, ginger, red bean). We opted for Sesame. It was good! Not amazing, but it was good. They gave us two scoops and two spoons for sharing. This whole time, our tea cups were constantly check on, and we were checked to see if everything was okay. Service is definitely top notch and friendly. I appreciate that. Our server was easy to talk to - as if we've been friends for a while. The only issue I ran into was that today was the last day that all sakes were 50% off, so my sampler was $7.50. However, I couldn't get both the yelp $15 for $30 AND the 50% off. He suggested I take the 50% off because it's the last day for that deal, and save the $15 for $30 for some other time. Uh, no. I don't understand why they couldn't just let me use both... the total bill came out to be close to 90 dollars. If you put the alcohol on a separate bill, and the food on a separate bill, I would still qualify to use both! Ugh. I'll let it go, it's 7 dollars. In summary, good food, great service, I highly recommend this place for good sushi. I will be back to try the other rolls! Every star was deserved.

I must say I was impressed with this restaurant the first time that I went. Not only were the waitresses attentive and friendly, but the place was clean, and the dishes were prepared with beautiful presentation. The fish was fresh, and I enjoyed everything I ordered. Here's what I ate: -Rainbow Roll -Sashimi Sampler -Miso Seabass -Ankimo -Tempura The second time I came here though we were the only table there and the rolls seemed smaller, and the staff was less than attentive.

I got the Tokyo Cowboy roll and Sweet Potato Roll and they were alright. The main tray was the Cowboy roll but I can't get over on how expensive the bill was. The portions were smaller than I thought but at least part of its quality makes up for it. $18 bucks and I was still hungry. The server asked if I wanted more orders but I just opted for the check. The place is alright but it won't get you full unless you order other items on the menu. Good for those that just wants to try the sushi for experience and maybe grab something else later.

We needed a new Sushi spot for Sushi Sunday! and hit up yelp to find a place, after a quick scan of reviews, this place won out. Parking was horrible Early Sunday Evening. After about half an hour we landed a spot about 5 blocks away. Walked in the were really surprised at how tiny the place was. They had just opened, so it wasn't too busy just yet. We were greeted and given a table within moments of walking in. The menu is quite large and had some interesting items on it. We opted for: Tokyo Cowboy Roll -Very interesting. This was my first experience with Beef on Sushi. I loved how it was very lightly seared and mostly raw. The sushi itself overpowered the taste of the beef, which was unfortunate, but when eaten alone and beef held a wonderful flavor. Good Quality seafood and meat. Creamy Scallop Roll - This roll said on the menu that it had Soy Wrap, which is my personal preferance over seaweed, so I ordered this roll thinking the Soy wrap was in place of Seaweed. However, when the roll arrived to our table I noticed it was both wrapped in Seaweed AND Soy Wrap. I had never seen this before and it tasted OK, I just prefer no Seaweed. More good Quality Seafood. Spicy Tuna Wrap - DIVINE! The spice was just right and the Tuna was SO fresh. Hamachi Shot - WOW. This was by far the best thing we had! Brilliant Flavors. Reminded me of a good Ceviche. The Tables need updating. The Services was a tiny bit slow but still very polite.

Food: -Hamachi shot, okay, personally didn't find it wowzers -Ankimo with spicy ponzu/monkfish liver, enjoyable and I love liver -Firefly squid, surprisingly good, must get if they have it for the day -Ika/squid nigiri, ika is usually one of my favorites, but this was just okay, I didn't like how they torched the squid -Nigiri, the sushi rice wasn't atrocious, but still lacking, a little too loose and not the best tasting -King salmon sashimi, really really good, distinctively more buttery and sweet than your typical salmon, never ordering regular cheap salmon again -Ginger ice cream, I typically hate ginger but this was good in ice cream form, and better because they apparently make their own ice cream -Green tea cheesecake, made in house, but tasted like a regular cheesecake with food-coloring Servce: -Everyone was very nice, only gripe was some miscommunication here and there, like how I wanted a sashimi omakase but got the nigiri instead -The manager was really patient and talked to me for about 15min straight answering all kinds of questions, told me about some of his new events ideas for the restaurant, and offered to teach me about sake tasting next time I go when I was waiting on the bill (or rather I didn't get the bill for 15 min because he was talking to me) Overall, the menu is reasonably priced (unless you're like me and ball by yourself). Food quality was about 6.5-7/10 out of my sushi snob scale, but 9-9.5/10 for being a chinese-run sushi joint, especially with some efforts put into presentation. 3.5-4 stars

Ordered delivery tonight and must say it is delicious! I ordered the Salmon Citrus Roll and the Hanabi Roll for an even 20 buck delivery minumum ;). Salmon Citrus roll was very refreshing. I love me some citrus on my rolls. The one thing I have to complain about though is that the rind was left on some of the lemon pieces which made for a hard surprise while chewing a few times. Once I figured out it was lemon rind I was cool but not really what you want in your roll! Lots of fresh crab though and asparagus gives it a great crunch. The Hanabi roll was cut in very slim pieces and I have to say I preferred that! Easy to eat and made it seem like you got more for your money. More sushi places should follow suit. Quite spicy but the flavor was amazing. I liked these two together with the fresh/citrus contrasting with the spicy/fried. It ended up being plenty enough for me which is rare when i order two rolls. Minor points off for not putting a barrier around the wasabi so it doesn't get on the rolls. I'm not a wasabi person so I should probably just say no thanks next time. Will order again!

For a party of three, we ordered two omakase nigiri $17 ea., which each consisted of five pieces: uni, hotari ika (firefly squid), goma saba (Japanese mackerel), tachiuo (beltfish), and blue fin tuna, all of which are on the Daigo Special menu. Also ordered blue fin toro nigiri, hamachi toro nigiri, sake nigiri, kanpachi kama, and aburi saba roll (tempura green onion, avocado, ginger, topped with seared mackerel). The pricing is normal for quality sashimi. The omakase was nicely presented, body temperature warm and no need for extra soy sauce. The unique flavor of the fish is apparent in each piece. The uni had amazing buttery texture but the flavor was disappointingly fleeting; I prefer my uni strong. The squid was sweet and soft with a surprise squirt of butteriness (guts? :]). The last notable pieces were the toros...mm delicious fattiness! I have learned to come here for the sashimi and not the rolls. I have been lucky to find parking nearby the last two times I came here as well as being one of their first patrons for the night so it wasn't crowded or noisy at all. I somehow always find myself arriving when they first open for dinner...I have good timing, I suppose! The service here is nice, polite and very good on keeping your cup of tea full. I will revisit again and again!

Great sushi, especially the Hamachi Toro. Great quality fish. I prefer the selection of sashimi/nigiri offered more than the rolls here. It can get pricey since there never seems to be enough ordered to be full. Helpful service, but not too friendly the last couple times I've come here.

Amazing fish. We got the Nigiri Sampler, and even though it was just five pieces, each piece of fish was life-changingly inspirational. The Hon Hamachi was so good it was probably stolen from the President's personal kitchen. Creamy Scallop Roll was small but delicious. Ive never had a roll wrapped in soy paper because I'm not allergic to seaweed, but it was cool. We replaced the asparagus in the Citrus Salmon Roll with avocado. The real crab was a great idea, because you could taste the ocean. Not corny at all. Great place, top quality fish and nice wooden chopsticks that felt right in your hand. Run by super young Chinese guys. Rare sight. Would recommend.

My friends and I were really looking forward to dining here. Once we arrived, we weren't greeted by any of the people who were working. We stood awkwardly in the middle of the restaurant behind a couple who were waiting to be seated. We saw a table of 4 become available but the waiters allowed 3 people from the bar to switch seats and take that table, allowing the couple in front of us to get seated at the bar, and us still unseated, ignored, and awkwardly uncomfortable. After a few minutes of arriving, my friend went up to one of the guys and asked if we could at least be put on a list; she gave him her name and gave her an estimate of 20 minutes. We decided to walk outside until we found another sushi joint nearby that had plenty of seating, great tasting sushi, and way better service!

Highlights: - Salmon Citrus Roll ($11): Snow crab, asparagus, salmon and lemon. I love citrus anything with sushi, so of course I had to try this one. It was good at most and I like how they added asparagus. - Creamy Scallop Roll ($12): Soy paper, avocado, inari, cucumber and scallop salad. The soy paper is definitely something different and there is a little kick in this roll from what I remember. Worth a try. - Service was great, there was only one other table so the waitress was really attentive. Improvements: - Seaweed salad ($4): Small portion size. You can't go wrong with this one, but nothing made it special. - I really wanted to love this place, but nothing stood out to me. Maybe I'm too hard to please, because I already have my heart set on a few of my favorite rotational sushi spots in SF that do deliver to my taste buds. Tip: There is a bar and tables, but it is best to go in smaller groups. No wait when I came later in the evening on a weekday.

What happens when you can't find parking in the Outer Richmond, and have to kill time before your movie starts? SUSHI. Yelp seems to save me every single time. Hungry, craving fish, and wanting to find something close and easy, we pulled up the handy-dandy yelp app to narrow our sushi search. As I always say, Yelp is my boyfriend and takes me to the most awesome joints. On this adventure, I felt like Goldilocks. The first joint we scouted was closed. The second one had some peculiar options on the menu and looked packed. The third fit us just right. Naruto Roll-do it. It's unique, refreshing, and I guarantee you'll want more. Tuna Poke-done well and a nice option when looking for tuna. Eryngi Tempura-the truffle oil was a little over powering, but it was good. If you sit at the bar, you can talk to the locals and ask for recommendations. I ordered some abalone special, and it was decent. Good decent spot, don't forget your beer and ice cream.

Really??? What an awful place. Rude service and old fish. Same old same old from a place that used to be a teenagers hangout. Came here a few days ago and servers were less than pleased to be working. Maybe they were having an off night but I will definitely need to consider twice coming back again. Disappointing because I was excited to try it based on all of the great reviews.

Not sure I can say this place is 4.5 stars worthy, but it's definitely a great bang for your buck in terms of fish quality, ambiance, and service. This Chinese owned sushi bar delivers excellent quality and quantity fish for the price, although I have to admit I still left hungry $45 later (not an uncommon phenomenon for me at Sushiyas). Come to Daigo, and do NOT leave without the hamachi shooters... or anything with hamachi (the hamachi toro was amazing too!). I also liked the aoebi, suuuuper ridiculously fresh and it comes with it's head deep fried. Skip on the sliced salmon appetizer, it was good but I've had much better quality salmon. My favorite specialty roll was the Spider Roll, I know there is no sushi in this one don't judge me. The Naruto was good, but the fish tasted like it was ground up, and I prefer my fish whole, not ground. I wanted to get more specialty rolls but couldn't justify spending $18 on another after seeing the small size of the Spider and Naruto (5-6 pieces each).

Something I can compare to Japan's sushi! Everything's fresh. Love the service and friendly chefs! My favorite thing is their green tea.. Yes!!! The most authentic I have tried. I would definitely come back. Try the Naruto and snow crab hand roll.

I'm delighted that Daigo has brought quality, authentic sushi back to the outer Richmond! While you can get the standard (ie boring) fare (read California rolls), they also offer a creative and elegant array for the more adventurous, hardcore sushi-lovers among us. In particular, I recommend the following: -uni nigiri: consistently fresh, bright, clean and full of umami -salmon and hamachi collars: don't get them to go, however, because they get overlooked -ankimo appetizer -sashimi moriawase: surprisingly choice cuts -hamachi crudo: okay not super authentic, but bright flavor palate, sophisticated presentation, and I always love jalapeño -tuna poke: will transport you to Hawaii -naruto roll: no rice and you don't miss it -sake flights: well-curated selections that will certainly enhance your experience The service is attentive and it is clear that these young proprietors take the utmost pride in their restaurant, but not overly obsequious or hovering. Ambience is not fancy, but clean and ascetic. Pricing is fair for the quality, but if you're seeking quantity you may be disappointed. To go advice: ask them to separate hot and cold items. Overall, highly recommend!

My wife and I have been coming here for a few years and it's one of our favorite gems of the city. The sushi is incredibly fresh and they have special dishes that are very inspiring and delicious. Their Hamache Carpaccio is amazing, the Hamache shots are awesome and they have his new Oyster dish that blew my mind. Every person that works there has made us feel very welcome. The service is so good that it keeps us coming back to enjoy their fantastic food. The young woman with the blond streaks who was our server last night was very pleasant and helpful. There is a reason we eat here every 2 weeks: great food and service.

Him: "Why you hating on your peoples?" *Rolls eyes* Me: "Excuse me?!?!? At least I know what Pocky and a Banh Mi is." He always gets on my case about being a sushi snob. I admit that I'm totally jaded when it comes to sushi restaurants. I prefer to go to Japanese owned ones. Would you want to go to a Chinese run Italian restaurant or a Filipino run French restaurant (I'm both)? There would be lap cheong and hot dogs in everything!!! Daigo Sushi is one of several Japanese restaurants to open in the last several weeks in San Francisco; all of which are not Japanese owned. I decided to come with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised. Hailing from the bougie Seiya in San Carlos ( yelp.com/biz/seiya-japan… ) and most recently from Naked Fish in The Marina ( yelp.com/biz/naked-fish-… ), the sushi chef at Daigo adds a little twist to his culinary artwork without ruining the integrity of main ingredient. Whether scoring the fish, brushing it with a sauce, or quickly torching it, his bit of creative flair to the classics added a new dimension. He even makes his low sodium soy sauce in house. This guy means business. F O O D *Ankimo: Monkfish Liver w/ Ponzu ($10) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Hamachi Shot w/ Onion, Quail Egg, Truffle Ponzu & Rice Balls ($6) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Hamachi Carpaccio w/ Jalapeño & Garlic Ponzu ($10) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Beef Tataki ($10) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Blue Shrimp Nigiri (White Board Special - $8.50) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Sake: Salmon Nigiri ($4) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Unimasu: Ocean Trout Nigiri ($5.50) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Tachiuo: Belt Fish Nigiri (White Board Special - $8) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Uni: Sea Urchin w/ Quail Egg Nigiri ($7 + $1) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Toro: Tuna Belly Nigiri ($9) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Unagi: Eel Nigiri ($6) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Walu: Escolar Nigiri ($5) yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… *Complimentary Ginger & Green Tea Ice Cream yelp.com/biz_photos/0Rvl… Unlike other reviewers, I didn't find the fish at Daigo to be the freshest I've ever had; however, the quality of the fish was good for the price point. The shari (seasoned rice) could have been more sticker as it easily fell apart upon picking up the nigiri with chopsticks. The standouts of the night were the tantalizing Hamachi Shooters which had tons of umami flavor and a nice crunch from the toasted rice balls, the soft, velvety Ankimo, the torch blown Hamachi Carpaccio which was super buttery with a delicate smokiness, the unique half raw and half torch blown Blue Shrimp with deliciously crunchy fried shrimp heads and the silky Sake Salmon. The mediocre selections were the Unimasu, Uni, Tachiuo, Unagi, and Walu as I've had fresher elsewhere. The disappointments of the night were the Beef Tataki which was grey and dry and the Toro which lacked the quintessential butteryness that I'm used to. Complimentary scoops of Ginger and Green Tea ice cream nicely ended our meal. The sweet and spicy Ginger was the winner of the two and a must order. S E R V I C E Impeccable and ultra friendly, the service at Daigo was probably one of the best I've had at a Japanese restaurant. A M B I A N C E / D E C O R Clean and minimalistic with 8 tables and 5-6 seats at the sushi bar. P A R K I N G Street parking is a biatch. There's a parking lot down the block for $3 every 30 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised with this non-Japanese (Chinese) owned Japanese restaurant but Ino in Japantown ( yelp.com/biz/ino-sushi-s… ) and Yume in Alameda ( yelp.com/biz/yume-restau… ) still rain supreme in my book. Yah, I'm a hater...and what?

Normally places I visit have enough reviews to justify me not having to write my own, but my experience at Daigo was enough to justify this review. The waitress struggled to write my order down even as I spoke in a very slow and comprehendible manner. Something to overlook if the rest of your meal goes well. Thirty minutes later in a nearly empty restaurant, the sashimi comes out because the chefs were too busy filling takeout orders that proceeded to idle anyway. In eight minute intervals, the chefs bless my table with single rolls containing 8 whole pieces. Between each roll, there was enough water consumed which could have been used to solve the Californian water drought. The rolls were decent in quality, but they were not large enough to compensate for the terrible service. The Naruto roll and James roll were the only ones memorable enough to recall by name. If you want to go to a place where the objective of eating comes second in priority, then this place is perfect for you.

I've came to Daigo two or three times now and have enjoyed each experience. The restaurant is small so there is a wait sometimes, but it passes quickly. My favorite rolls to get are the Naruto and James roll. My previous experiences with cucumber sushi wrap haven't been the best so I was hesitant to get the Naruto roll, but the server assured me it's one of the customers favorites. After I tried it I was a believer. The outside cucumber wrap holds in the spicy tuna, salmon, and something else. It's quite yummy. The James Roll has seared tuna (?) on top with a jalapeño that gives a good kick. The beef tataki is also really good. Also, when you check in you get free ice cream which is always nice :) I'll def. come to Daigo again when I want consistent quality and service.

I have been to Daigo many times and have never been disappointed! The freshness of the sushi is always excellent! There are a small number of tables and bar area so if you are going on an evening expect a wait! They are also open for lunch Fri, Sat, and Sun which is amazing and hard to find with a good sushi spot! I wish there was a bit more variety with the special rolls but they are all delicious and good picks. They have a $20 for $10 deal on Yelp AND if you check in on Yelp you get free ice cream! Highly recommend!!

If I could give 4.5 that's what if give - 5 for taste and freshness, 4 for small selection and odd combos ;)

After a really bad day, my roommate took me out to get some of my comfort food down the street. I've been coming to Daigo for a while now, but I've never had a chance to take pictures and actually write a review. The restaurant is small and contemporary. There is a sushi bar of course, with a beautiful view of the fishy goodness. They also had a $20 for $10 special on Yelp. Totally worth it! [THE FOOD] The Naruto Roll - $8.00 4 pieces in each roll. A nice appetizer and very refreshing. The roll has no rice and is instead wrapped in cucumber. Inside is avocade, spicy tuna, hamachi, and sake with a ponzu sauce. YUM. Seafood Salad - $11.50 I really enjoyed this! The dressing was acidic and complimented the sashimi very well. I also enjoyed the various types of fish on top, plus the kaiware sprouts are my favorite! Baked Salmon Roll - $13.00 Your standard "lion king" type roll. California on the inside with baked salmon and sauce on top. It was very comforting. Warm sushi that melts in your mouth just feels more like a full meal because it's savory I guess. Negihama Roll - $4.50 I was still hungry (it was a really long day) so I grabbed a small hamachi roll. The nori outside was fresh and crispy, and the hamachi fresh! When you check into Yelp, you can get a free ice cream. It comes in Black Sesame, Ginger, or Green Tea. I came in a group of 3 so we each tried one. I liked them all, although my ginger was my favorite, as I just really love ginger. [THE VALUE] For the quality of the sushi, I'd definitely be back. Their prices were fair. Not dirt cheap, but definitely worth it for what you got. Their hamachi shooters, carpaccio, ankimo, etc. are all very good too, and you can't find them just anywhere. [THE SERVICE] Service has always been pretty solid for me here. My tea/water was always filled and I've never had any complaints!

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant is pretty small, so I could see how dinners could be busy/require a wait. We ordered the sashimi moriawase, and 4 nigiri's from the special menu (sea bream, barracuda, ocean trout and blue shrimp). The sashimi was SOOO delicious. Super fresh, tender, melt in your mouth. I'd say one of the best sashimi plates I've had in a while. The nigiri were on the smaller side, but again, very good. Service was quick and friendly. Decently priced for excellent quality. Check in for a free scoop of ice cream!

For a neighborhood sushi place, this is one of the better quality spots to go to. I'm not really a roll person but their sashimi and nigiri are pretty decent! My boyfriend and I came here and we got quite a few of their special nigiri and sashimi moriwase and we weren't disappointed at all. The pieces of sashimi were a bit on the small side but they were quite fresh and delicious. The best pieces were definitely the walu and Chu toro. We tried a roll, I forget the name but it was decent but it wasn't anything too special other than the fact that it wasn't over sauced which was good. The hand rolls are also pretty good. The negi toro and unagi avocado hand rolls were delicious! Good amount of fish and not an insane amount of rice. If I need a quick sushi fix that's decent I would come here again! Total for 2: $90

Underwhelmed, small portions. Even the largest and most expensive rolls are only about six pieces instead of eight, and that is a pretty small-sized roll (in overall lenght compared to the average six piece roll). Nice decor with an upscale feel, but it felt more like a crutch for mediocre food. The location and area are great, and it seems to be the case with some restaurants thinking that success is guaranteed if they are located next to a bunch of affluent people and have a snazzy decor. Maybe it's my Americanized palette, but I did order the more Americanized rolls (the Naruto roll) and felt them to lack creativity versus other sushi restaurants I've favored in the past. Friendly service although reserved and quite shy. I don't know what it is with sushi places in Marin county, but it seems most waiters are extremely shy and overly polite. This may be more authentic to the culture, but I would rather my waiter be an extrovert who can make me feel like a friend. This is universal anywhere. When I eat sushi I expect to be blown away, because I'm never full from eating it by itself (I have a more athletic body and require to eat a lot of food and protein to maintain my mass. This is not practical with sushi, because of its expense, although it is one of my favorite foods). There is nothing worse than a sushi place that is only mediocre, because most sushi will be pretty good, but since all sushi is expensive than only the best of the best will survive. This basically means I won't be back here as I will keep searching for something more akin to my palette. By the way: I have been eating extremely healthy at home lately (no condiments, no processed foods, no sugar, etc.) and therefore everything I eat when I go out to eat always tastes incredible, no matter how mediocre the food actually is. This place tasting mediocre for being one of my favorite food genres must mean something, as a great sushi restaurant should taste like ecstasy.

I've had plenty of ok experiences here. Unfortunately this evening when I ordered sushi for delivery using their website they waited 40 minutes before calling me to say they will not fulfill my order. I understand that they are a small restaurant and very popular. I would just hope that they would tell me sooner so I could order food elsewhere and not have to wait an extra 40 minutes. I understand if 15 minutes go by and they realize they are too busy but 40 minutes its too much. Generally this place takes 45-60 minutes to delivery when you are in the neighborhood so I was expecting food soon, not a call saying they aren't going to fulfill my order.

Such a great place to get good sushi, whether you're on your date, catch up with a friend, or a roommate bonding excursion. It's tiny, so I recommend it for 2 people, no more than 3! I loved looking through through the menu and choosing the different sushi without having to worry too much about what it'll do to my wallet. We sat in the front where we got to see the chefs do their thing, and it was pretty interesting to watch! Not quite sure if we made them self-conscious as we nearly drooled over everything that they were making, but hey! They should be used to it by now, especially when the sushi is so damn good. Service was attentive as well; didn't even realize when they refilled the hot tea!

After trying many many many many sushi joints, this is hands down my absolute favorite place for regular Omakase in San Francisco. As a native Seattleite, I've been blessed with affordable yet delicious options for sushi ranging from Sushi Land ($1.5 two piece salmon nigiri) to Musashi ($16 stuff your face fresh Chirashi) to Shiros ($60 top notch Omakase). Sushi is my go to option and I could eat it everyday. When I moved to San Francisco, reality came crushing down on me. 20+ dollars for 5 pieces of sashimi everywhere I go. Rip off. On top of that, the fish is subpar at best with long lines that no one has time to wait for. The other option is paying $200 somewhere like Maruya, but who can afford that?! Then came along my knight in shining armor - Eric and his sous chef are masters of fish. Even though they look young, they have a great understanding of fish and really care about what they serve on your plate! Their fish specials change all the time so there's always something new and delicious to try! On top of that customer service is top notch! They remembered after just one visit that my roommate doesn't like Ikura and haven't served us Ikura since. My roommate have been coming here at least once a month (often more) since September 2014. We eat until we're stuffed and we've never paid more than 70 per person. Steals on steals... For the Bay Area. Tl;dr: If you're into nigiri/sashimi this is a must try for the price/quality/service.

Haven't gotten a chance to review Daigo yet--but here goes! The BF and I LA-LA-LOVE this place. We like the rolls as well as the nigiri here. Fresh fish and great value. Service has always been great! PLUS, they deliver. AWESOMEEEE. Our go-tos: Appetizers --Hamachi Carpaccio and Albacore Tataki. YUMM. Rolls --my personal FAVE Salmon Citrus Roll. The snow crab with the salmon, asparagus, and thinly sliced lemon on top...yessss. It's hard to find a roll that combines these elements together--I especially like that they don't use Krab. :] --Tokyo Cowboy Roll. I like the tangy tataki sauce that comes with it--it really brings everything together, with the crunchy tempura scallion, seared filet mignon, and shiitake. FLAVOR EXPLOSION. --Good basic rolls like tempura roll and spicy tuna roll. --We like getting unagi avocado hand rolls as well. Something that we tried once that was not craveworthy: Eryngi Tempura. I mean truffle salt, tempura mushrooms, and a wasabi creme fraiche sauce sounds extraordinary, but honestly, it was a bit more bland than we expected. Overall, SOLID place. Haven't had to wait too long for a table, despite how small the space is. Plus, if you feel like a night in and don't want to deal with the sometimes (most times) difficult to find parking, they deliver. It's a bit pricey, but totally worth every last penny. Thanks Daigo! See you soon! :D

Wait, I have not reviewed Daigo yet?? Shame on me. I guess I have been too busy enjoying their delicious offerings and got side tracked! Well, Daigo is my tried and true most favorite sushi spot in my neighborhood. Their fish is consistently fresh and the quality of their dishes is high. A few favorites that I always get: - Hamachi Shot w/ Onion, Quail Egg, Truffle Ponzu & Crispy Rice Balls. What's not to love, fresh hamachi with creamy quail egg, with a slight kick of ponzu and crunchy texture of crispy rice balls. A delectable flavor party in your mouth! -Naruto Roll: spicy tuna, sake, hamachi and avocado, wrapped in cucumber. Always a favorite. Super refreshing and cooling in the summer or winter! A must order. I've tried cucumber wrap rolls at other sushi restos and trust me, the flavor at Daigo can't be beat. Other signature rolls I've tried include Tokyo Cowboy Roll, Salmon Citrus Roll, Super White Roll, Creamy Scallops Roll. Each has an unique flavor profile and each really tasty in their own way. Their seasonal daily nigiri and sashimi menu is great! There are always interesting fish imported from Japan or elsewhere that are prepared fresh and yummy, should you be in the adventurous mood to try something new. The staff is always welcoming and courteous. They will let you know if dishes are already seasoned so there's no need to use soy sauce or wasabi. This is really a neighborhood gem of a restaurant and I always look to my full belly after each visit. BTW, Yelp check-ins get you free ice cream!

One of, if not THE best sushi experience I've had in America. All of the exotic roll combos we tried (and we tried about 8 of them!) were awesome. Especially the Cowboy, the James, the Naruto. These combos are far from traditional, and that's why I ordered them, as I can't get this type of sushi in Japan. The chu-toro nigiri was excellent... and I used to eat sushi breakfasts at Tsukiji Market in Tokyo several times a month while living there, so I'm very critical of sushi in the States, as it almost never measures up. Despite the fact that the guys making it don't come from Japan, nor even San Francisco, they are doing a great job.

PRICE + QUALITY = PERFECTION What can I say about this place. It's got the perfect equation for an amazing meal that you are looking for. Daigo is actually a pretty small joint compared to may sushi places and I've actually never seen a line here. As a matter of fact I think it's actually a gem/ hole in a wall that gets overlooked. But beyond all that you get a comfy atmosphere, an amazing ambience, and most importantly hospitality like no other. The owner here (who is the chef himself) is amazing and very friendly. 5 stars for that. Lets talk fish: There are a couple things you can do with the food here but I recommend omakase as always. Don't just get the set menu that the chef has (which is a set number of fish), but just eat until you are full. Why? Cus this place has good price for the amount of fish you eat compared to many SF places out there. The only downfall? It's pretty far out. But if you get a chance to taste the fish it's perfection! I'm not even joking. Bonus item!!!!!! You get ice-cream for dessert. In SF there has only been one other place that I have given a 5 star. But honestly that place is very pricey. VERRRRYYYYY PRICEY. This will be my go to spot for affordable and delicious omakase.

Lovers of traditional Japanese sushi, come here! *reader tip, "if your a jive ass roll person, or bento box guy... don't come here" I'm sure a lot of people follow Nobu K. when it comes to traditional Japanese food around the Bay Area. I admit, I follow him as well on yelp. But for some reason he didn't like it. For me, I've always found this place to be spectacular and different compared to the fusion Japanese cuisine all over the bay. Yes, this place isn't Japanese owned, but the sushi chefs do know what they are doing. There's a few things I recommend when you come here. I go for omakase.. Talk to the sushi chef, tell him what you like and get a relationship with a small talk. Forget the rolls, because you can get rolls everywhere. Nothing special if your going to go for a california roll. I've uploaded a set of pics on my recent visit. The Sushi Chef (Eric) worked out a Sashimi Moriawase, which was a selection of sashimi pieces in small cuts. The work of art and knife skills are presented here. Then comes the nigiri. I tasted 11 piece nigiri special (for me, i've come to a result where i tell him when to stop). Served up in these 11 pieces included Chu-toro, regular toro, king salmon, tuna, ikura, etc etc.. Note that the rice (Shari) is marinated. If you watch Eric work his magic, the fish gets the knife treatment, and other ingredients are added on top. This means you may not need to use soy sauce. If your drenching every piece in a deep bowl of soy sauce and wasabi, your going to loose the original taste of the fish. If your still not full with the nigiri, I recommend doing a handroll to complete the dine in. Enjoy!

Daigo is definitely one of the better places in SF. There is a wide range of nigiri specials, great selection of fish and appetizers. I really liked the hamachi shot and the iwashi (fresh sardine) nigiri. The king salmon nigiri was superb as well. We had hamachi toro, toro, saba, madai, pretty much every fish you can name on the menu. It was great! This place is definitely for the adventurous sushi eaters. It's not your average neighborhood sushi joint! I also like akiko's, kusakabe, and umi. Daigo for sure is adds to the list of places I would recomment people to go! Pro tip - sit at the sushi bar for fast service.

If you're looking for really good sushi and sashimi, this place is the place to go! I have been here twice and both experiences were great. The restaurant was a tiny little place with little tables. Very quaint, clean, and nice atmosphere altogether. It is on the pricier side of sushi but it's worth the splurge once in a while when you really want the real deal. We ordered the Naruto Roll, butter fish, a few hand rolls, and oysters. Everything tasted fresh and amazing! You even get a free bowl of ice cream with the Yelp check-in! I have tried all three of the ice cream flavors they offer: the green tea, black sesame, and red bean, and the black sesame is interestingly good.

Fresh and fantastic sushi spot - so glad I found this! I am picky when it comes to nigiri, sashimi, and the freshness of fish, and Daigo passes. The restaurant was crowded when we came (~7pm on a Sunday) and we were seated within about 15 minutes. Our food came out promptly and the service was great. I ordered the Miso soup, seaweed salad, and some assorted nigiri and enjoyed everything I ate. The amount of fish for each piece was some of the smallest I've seen at a sushi restaurant, although the quality made up for it. We finished the meal with some black sesame and ginger ice cream. A Yelp deal came with a free scoop of ice cream for our table, which we happily ordered. The ice cream is fresh and was a great end to the meal. I would love to come back to Daigo, but I'm more willing to go when I want a smaller dinner. There wasn't as much fish per order, and getting more sushi here can be pricey.

For sure the best sushi place in San Francisco in our opinion! Thanks to our regular diner's recommendation we were able to finally find our dream sushi place! Since then we've been there 3 times, and every single time it's beyond amazing. The owner chef Eric is truly an amazing culinary artist. His Taiwanese background might make some people doubt the quality of his sushi, but sometimes a young vibrant talented artist not bound by boring tradition and set frame of mind can create brand new things and able to bring new dimension to the cuisine. And he so does while correctly mastering all parts of the tradition. For that reason, everybody should try to order his special menu of nigiri and sashimi rather than rolls (although we are pretty sure his rolls are amazing too). The way his rice is cooked, amazing variety of super high quality fish, some are very hard to find elsewhere, all are presented exquisitely and accompanied by a number of interesting and well made condiments. All of his oroshi are done so perfectly and the oroshi with yuzu kosho was a very fresh combination of two traditional ingredients that's not so popularly done by tradition Japanese chefs. The beautiful aji nigiri came with green onions and ginger purée with a very elegant ponzu, rather than traditional chopped green onion and grated ginger, and tasted amazing. Another approach you wouldn't find from traditional "authentic appearing" older Japanese chefs. The Japanese blue fin toro we enjoyed had an almost snow flake like fluffy texture that melted in mouth but left amazingly long finish of great rich flavor. We commented how amazing the toro tasted, and Chef Eric explained to us that he prefers Japanese blue fin compared to Spanish blue fin toro more commonly found around town, because to him the Spanish one tastes "too sour." He has an amazing palate for balance and flavor for sure. All his staff are kind, attentive and his chefs all cook well. It's great to dine at a place where everybody in the establishment seems to care greatly about the quality of experience and wants to hold the high standard. Thank you so much for the wonderful meal and we look for many many many more!

I am Sasuke Uchiha. I journeyed from across the land in search of Naruto Umezaki, my lifelong nemesis. I have now arrived in this town called Richmond....could this be the legendary Hidden Village in the Fog? I can see no further than the Daigo Sushi shop five paces ahead. Very well, I will inquire about Naruto there first. "Welcome to Daigo Sushi, you can sit by the bar or at a table." I am here for Naruto Umezaki. "Naruto Umezaki..? Oh! You mean the Naruto Roll. Yeah we have that, coming right up. Hey are you okay, man? Your eyes look a little bloodshot." Bloodshot? This fool does not even know of my Sharingan, but yet he has the whereabouts of Naruto... how could this be...? *Chef cuts sushi* Impossible! That man is wielding a sword from the Seven Ninja Swordsman of the Mist! It all makes sense now, the reason why this town is so foggy. My sharingan sees that he is using the sword to cut the fish to perfection. And he is chanting some sort of Jutsu as he is cutting... he is chanting "One Omakase Coming Right Up." Blast it, I must be extra careful of these Daigo Ninjas. "Here is your Naruto Roll." Is this really Naruto? Is he disguising himself as one of Choji's snacks? I must take a bite. The fish swirls around with the cucumber just as the shape of a naruto. Undeniably delicious, perfected by a slight hint of oil... But only a master could have crafted the perfect swirl of this sushi. A master with the skill of Rasengan! Naruto is near, I must leave to find him at once! "Sir! You can't leave yet, you haven't paid the bill." Fool! Do you not know who I am? MANGEKYO SHARINGAN!! "Sir, I don't know nothing 'bout this mako shotgun thing you're saying, but staring at me like that will not stop me from calling the police if you don't pay." A Summoning Jutsu for the police!? You win this time, Daigo Ninjas of the Village Hidden in the Fog. You win. *Takes out Naruto's Froggy Wallet*

I give five stars because of the politeness and promptness of the waiting staff. But above all their Nigiri are top notch. Rolls are properly done, but the craftsmanship in the Nigiri is of a superior standard that goes hand in hand with the freshness of their fish.

Rating: 3.5 Stars Reservation: Didn't make any reservations, walked in on a weekend right when they opened. I was able to sit wherever I wanted! Food: Ordered some nigiri off of their daily special and regular menu. Quality of sushi was pretty decent but I felt like the portions were a bit small. Tea is complimentary! Parking: Street parking but very limited. Try to take public transportation if you can. Service: Pretty attentive staff. Overall: will come back again if I'm not super hungry but want pretty good sushi.

One of my new favorite sushi spots! Bookmarked this place and I finally got to try it last night. The restaurant is actually very small and cozy. My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered a few items. We started with the hamachi carpaccio, hamachi shots and sunomono (cucumber salad). I especially enjoyed the hamachi carpaccio because it was very light and had the right amount of garlic ponzu. We then had the naruto roll which has no rice! It has spicy tuna, salmon, hamachi and avocado wrapped in cucumber. I was excited to try this because it was mentioned in a lot of reviews and it did not disappoint. It was very different and refreshing. We also had the baked salmon roll (commonly called the lion king roll at other restaurants). I was hesitant to get this because when I order this at other places, they usually go overboard with the sauce and it's too heavy for my liking but this place was so good! I would've finished the whole roll myself but I had to share :( we also had the special bluefin tuna belly nigiri. It melted in our mouths! My friend ended up ordering another order for himself. Besides the food being amazing, so was the service. I drink a lot of water while I eat and my water glass was not once empty. They were constantly checking on us and everyone was very friendly and warm. Can't wait to be back to try everything else!

Excellent sushi. We came in on a fri night and we had to wait 15 mins, which isn't bad! We had mostly sashimi and the fish was VERY fresh. We also had a couple rolls that were tasty and pretty inventive. Can't wait to come back!

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! We ordered through Eat 24 and the order stated that it would take 45-60 minutes... after 1 hour and 10 minutes I called to check on our order. The receptionist, Madonna (I believe), stated that they were busy and it would be ANOTHER HOUR. You have got to be kidding me. And, the manager Edmund was too busy to talk to me. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. EVER.

Definitely some of the freshest fish around and the chef's attention to detail makes every dish great. We always end up getting the cowboy roll as a default starter followed by plates of sashimi. Toro and uni are always the best. We tend to go closer to closing to avoid the rush and they always have everything to offer still. Go to sushi spot without breaking the bank.

Came in on a Saturday night around 8 p.m. and to our surprise, there were only two other tables in the restaurant. We walked in and we're told to sit wherever we liked, which is always nice. As soon as we sat down, the server brought us menus and tea shortly after. We did have to gesture to the servers that we were ready to order since they had huddled at the register chatting. No big deal though, service was super attentive throughout - tea and water were constantly filled, plates were cleared away almost instantly, and our server asked us how we liked the meal at the end. Tuna tataki salad: HUGE. Comes with a good amount of tuna, which is great. This is spicy, so the bf couldn't eat too much of it. Tuna sashimi: I say the slices were average in size and thickness. Naruto roll: The bf really liked this, but I thought it was okay. Nigiri: Sooo fresh! We ordered the hamachi, albacore, walu, and hon maguro. It was all delicious and I was tempted to order more even though we would not have finished it. Prices are a bit on the pricier side; our bill came out to be 69 before tip. But I think it was worth it and definitely will be back for the fresh fish.

Our night here started out a little shaky. The place is small and we waited a while to get a table. Our edamame came out and the top ones were warm-ish, then we got to cold and a little concerning, then completely frozen... So why the 4 stars? Sushi was so fresh!! Service was great! Ice cream was delicious to boot too! Had our edamame been completely warm and the portions were a little bigger, this would be a 5-star joint! (The guys ate Gordo's down the street after...)

This place is conveniently close to my apartment, so tried it one night spontaneously. It was smaller than I expected. we got a couple of rolls and some sashimi. I didn't care for the naruto roll, but I think that was more of a personal preference, I can be put off by textures.. Everything was great, and the service was good. I would definitely go again.

3.5 stars. I came here with a few friends for dinner tonight to celebrate a belated birthday. We ordered a few rolls for dinner. I ordered the Baked Salmon Roll and tried both the Tempura Roll and Spider Roll. Out of three rolls that I tried, I thought that the Baked Salmon Roll tasted the best. The Baked Salmon Roll is basically a baked California roll filled with avocado and imitation crab meat topped with salmon and drizzled with spicy mayo. I loved that it's definitely fresh. This roll took the longest to make, which is understandable. I loved that the entire roll worked well together. It is on the pricey side with 8 pieces for $12. The Tempura Roll came with just 6 pieces for $6.50. Shrimp tempura with avocado wrapped into a sushi roll. This roll didn't amaze me and I mostly tasted the batter of the tempura more than anything else. The Spider Roll was pretty good too. The basic soft shell crab wrapped with cucumber and avocado then drizzled with teriyaki sauce. When you bite into this roll, the first thing you notice is the soft shell crab. It's crunchy and delicious. However, I feel like it's all I noticed too. It's as if I'm only eating the soft shell crab rather than as a roll. I was a little bit disappointed after all the reviews I read. However, since I don't eat raw fish, I can't review their other rolls. I do believe they are known for their fresh fish. For me, I feel their cooked rolls are overpriced for the amount we received. The rolls are smaller than other sushi places that I've been to.

Found this neighborhood gem sushi restaurant in the Richmond district as we were looking for a place to eat, and once again thanks to the Yelpers, we picked this restaurant based on the great reviews. The restaurant is very small and unassuming and has only about 10 small tables. Started the dinner with Edamame, Beef Tataki, and Tofu salad. All the appetizers were great with very subtle/delicate taste and not over powered by soy sauce like many other places. We continued with the series of sushi rolls: Naruto roll, Hamachi Jalapeño roll, Dragon roll, Rainbow roll, Spider roll, Sweet potato roll, Salmon avocado hand roll, and Tokyo cowboy hand roll. Each was unique with very fresh sashimi. The staff was friendly and helpful and served the selections one at a time with a steady pace which was great. A definite must try for sushi lovers. They also have a very large drink menu, but since we are not drinkers, cannot comment on that

This place really focuses on nigiri, which as someone coming from Japan, I really appreciate! We ordered a couple things: uni, ikura, dragon roll, naruto roll, spider roll, and the hanabi roll. They were all equally delicious, but if I had to choose one, I would go with the dragon roll -- other than the uni and ikura nigiri of course! You can never go wrong with those two. My least favorite was the naruto roll. I am not a fan of sushi drenched in ponzu. I have never seen it in Japan and I don't think I will ever get used to it. It also only came with four slices, which I thought should be stated (I typically expect around 6-8 rolls). What really stood out to me about this place was the freshness of their fish. Like I said before, the fact that they focus a lot of their attention on nigiri shows that they are confident in their fish and knife skills.

So happy for all the Yelp reviews that led us here. It was great service, fresh and tasty food, no wait and good prices.

The sushi place was fresh. I can't even start to explain how fresh it was. Everything here was plated perfectly and tasted like it was sent from heaven. The food is a little pricing but that's okay because it was definitely worth it.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Richmond. I've had most of the rolls and my favorites are the tokyo cowboy, naruto and the baked salmon roll. Cowboy is topped with seared filet mignon and tataki sauce. It has a somewhat garlicy taste and isn't a common roll at other Japanese restaurants. The naruto is very fresh - spicy tuna, hamachi and avocado wrapped in cucumber. It takes a few minutes extra for the baked salmon roll - basically california roll topped with warm salmon. It's definitely a savorier choice for dinner. Some of the more common rolls are the rainbow, dragon, spider, spicy tuna and hamachi. All solid - you can't go wrong and they are the perfect second choice options to cowboy and naruto. The hanabi is more thinly sliced, crispy and topped with sriracha - tasty, mildly different. Of all the rolls, I found the James to be the least inspired. The separate special menu actually operates more as a weekly. I really enjoy the uni, firefly squid and miso cod. Anything with oysters, hamachi or ending with 'shooter' is a fair win. From the drinks menu, I was excited to see they have a full suite of Hitachino beers. The red rice is easily my first choice though I have heard good things about the espresso stout. Conveniently, they serve plum wine in a tiny bottle for one.

This is a great spot. Some yahoo complained about them not being Japanese...you have to be Japanese to make great sushi???! So, the Italian food you get at Tosca is cooked up by Italians from Naples?! What about hamburgers...need those cooked up by a genuine Yankee?? Ridiculous. Anyway, this spot is small...intimate I would say. And the fish is really delicious. We had a bunch of nigiri, rolls, cold beers and a couple of orders of omikase. Delicious and reasonable. We had great service. And, a great time.

TORO MELTS LIKE BUTTER!!!! (4.5 stars) One of the best toro I've ever had. FISH BELLY, get in my belly!!!!! - FOOD, deliciousness - PRICES, decent/depends - SERVICE, good - AMBIANCE, small and clean You pay for QUALITY!! They have a "Today's Special" menu that changes daily based on what the supplier brings in. ALWAYS order from this menu. This is not the typical sushi joint where the rolls are covered in sauces, nor it is a sushi joint where you can order teriyaki and all that extra garbage. This is a TRUE and LEGIT sushi joint. HEFER STATS. HAMACHI SHOT ($6) - that has got to be the loveliest hamachi shot I've had (beats the one at Alexander steakhouse). It had finely diced hamachi, finely chopped onion, raw quail egg yolk, crispy rice balls (crumbs), sliver of avocado, pinch of fish eggs as garnish, and truffle ponzu. The truffle wasn't over powering and enhanced the flavors. It was just lovely! Highly recommend. HAMACHI CARPACCIO ($10) - thinly sliced hamachi, jalapeño, tobiko, and garlic ponzu. It was laid out like the beef Tataki, on a long plate. Beautiful color, crackin taste!!! The hamachi was like velvet with little hints of heat. I could do without the fish eggs... The hamachi is just fine without or with. Good stuff! BEEF TATAKI ($10) - seared filet Mignon and Tataki sauce (think it has jalapeño flavor), The beef was laid ontop of raw arugula. The slices of filet Mignon were delicious; tender and flavorful. If you take a bite with the arugula you get the sharp taste on the after taste. Flavor, savory of the meat, and a nice tangy and spice of heat from the jalapeño. Highly recommend. TORO TASTING ($15.5) - this was on the today's special menu; not always available but if it is... Order it without hesitation!!! 4 pieces only but the belly (toro) is the best part. The toro tasting came from 4 different fish (albacore toro, salmon toro, blue fin toro, and yellowtail toro). MELTED IN MY MOUTH!!!!! Hands down, that was the best I've ever had. Highly recommend. NARUTO ($9) - 4 pieces. spicy tuna, sake, hamachi, and avocado wrapped in cucumber wrapper with ponzu. This was one of their special rolls. This is one of their popular items. You can see three different fishes folded within the cucumber wrap. The cucumber wrap gives this roll a nice crunch and the ponzu helps digest the roll. Highly recommend. ISAKI ($6) - this was on today's special. 2 pieces of three line grunt from Japan. The fish was light in taste and not as tender as is imagine. There isn't much creaminess in this order and nothing exciting. It wasn't "terrible" it just wasn't awesome. Do not really recommend. NEGIHAMA ($3.50) - 6 pieces. hamachi and scallops. This was a roll and came in six tiny pieces. Although it looks simple, it was yummy and I liked it. Didn't have any crazy/colorful sauces, just pieces and dipping sauce. Who needs garbage sauce to cover quality. Highly Recommend. GREEN TEA ICE CREAM (free) - save yourself $2.50 if you check-in. You can chose other flavors but green tea is yummy. Refreshing after a meal. Green tea is always my first pick in ice cream at this place. BLACK SESAME ICE CREAM - they have the best black sesame ice cream!! The sesame taste is not overpowering and the ice cream itself is very creamy. I am a fan. Will I be back? DUH!!! I am duke for a reason. JABA APPROVED... Until the next review!!!

Horrible experience. Ordered on Eat24, confirmed order and gave us a 60 minute delivery. At just over an hour, called restaurant who proceeds to tell me it is going to be another hour. I usually go pick from Sushi Kazu bit thought we would try something new, bad idea.

Ok so the pictures on Yelp are pretty deceiving. Long story short, the fish is very small and do not seem like good cuts. You can't tell in the pictures because you can't see them in scale. As soon as walked in, I noticed this place must not be Japanese operated. The people making the sushi are just young kids who look like they have never been trained in making sushi, and they also double for waiters. But whatever, I thought I shouldn't judge by the looks. We got the ankimo, naruto roll, and a few assorted sushi. Naruto roll was nothing to rave about - fresh yes, but I don't know how you can mess up bits of fish wrapped in cucumber with ponzu sauce. Also it's only 4 pieces ($9). The sushi, like I said, was tiny and not very good. The ankimo was alright, but also tiny. The price was on par with other sushi restaurants, which made it worse because it was not good. If you are a true nigiri/sashimi lover, I cannot recommend this place. I don't think I'll even go to hold me over.

Daigo Sushi's need interesting small restaurant located in a kind of empty area. It's very conveniently located near a bus stop for public transport. == Food == Tuna poke was alright. Some pieces needed to be better cut... they weren't cut all the way. Naruto roll which is salmon, spicy tuna, and hamachi in a pond of ponzu sauce. The four rolls come with the ponzu sauce already pour in the dish. Let it sit too long and you'll have a ponzu favor sushi. The fish was really fresh. One of the rare places that has hitachino beer. This stuff is really good. I recommend the pale ale. == Service == Service was alright. The waitress came by once to see how things were. Tea cups were refilled also. The food came out pretty quick. == Overall == Seems like this place prides itself on the quality of the fish. You'll pay top dollar for that quality in return. Maybe the traditional rolls are better, but the special rolls are not worth it.

Often order pick up from this place and have found them to be polite, speedy, and professional. Not a bad place to dine in at either---they have a couple really tasty rolls and pretty decent quality of fish. I'll continue to go back!

Best sushi in SF hands down. The freshest fish, best variety and specials that change often. This is a place where I have no problem eating only sashimi. Part of me wants to keep this place a hidden secret, but another part of me wants to scream how good it is from the rooftops. You won't be disappointed.

*Check in on Yelp for free ice cream! Green tea, ginger, or black sesame. Mmhmhm. Came here on Friday night for dinner, and it was surprisingly empty. It's a cozy little place-perfect for a low-key date night. We ordered: (1) Tuna Tataki Salad- there is a LOT of tuna packed into this seemingly small bowl! Tuna is nicely seared with a crispy coating and rare middle. Yummerz. (2) Hamachi Jalapeno Roll- hamachi fish & jalapeno. It was alright. The jalapeno adds a nice kick without making the roll unbearingly spicy. Probably would not order this again because there really isn't anything too unique about this roll. (3) Aburi Saba Roll- our favorite! It has tempura green onion, ginger, onion, avocado, and topped with a fat piece of seared fish. Tempura doesn't overwhelm the roll, and there is a bursting of flavor with every bite. Would probably come back for their lunch menu, which offers combos. At dinner, they only serve rolls, sashimi, and various appetizers. Also no complimentary miso soup or edamame :C

They are pretty reasonable priced for the type of fish you are getting. I think that their pieces are smaller than others but I think this is actually the size it should be. I still love going to Kabuto but it's nice to change it up here once in a while. They don't have too much variety in terms of hot food so it's just rolls and nigiri. I rounded up since I've had pretty positive experiences. I've been here twice and I felt like it would be 3.5 stars (first time because I didn't know they wouldn't have any hot food and my brother only really likes udon, second time because they didn't clean the shrimp) All in all.. pretty solid sushi joint. I would recommend coming off time especially because parking is so terrible.

AMAZING. When I go out for sushi, I either order sashimi or nigiri. What can I say, Daigo did both amazingly. The place is small (like REALLY small), but we got seated right away and the waitress and waitor were attentive. I can't remember everything we ate (a lot was on the daily special), BUT I can say nothing disappointed me. We had the moriawase sashimi (tuna, binnaga, hamachi, sake, walu), and a bunch of nigiri (toro, zuku sake, amaebi, walu, and some others). All the fish was fresh and had the perfect melt in your mouth texture. Besides the sashimi, I didn't dip the any of the nigiri in soy sauce or add any extra wasabi because the sushi chefs had flavor down to a point. The flavors highlighted the fish perfectly without being overwhelming. We paired the dinner with echigo beer, which was light and sweet. Overall, DAMN, can I go back now? One of the best meals I've had in a long time.

I love this place! Very quiet, cosy interior with friendly service. The green tea had this savory smell to it that made it all the better to drink. I ordered the unagi nigiri and the Hanabi roll. The unagi nigiri was pretty standard; the Hanabi roll was cut a little thinner than I expected (but I don't know anything about sushi other than I looove it, so maybe it was cut just right), but scrumptious all the same. Would really recommend it. Checked in on Yelp and got the free green tea ice cream! The black sesame ice cream was also good, and actually reminded me of the green tea that I'd been drinking.

The presentation of the sushi looks very high end even though the restaurant does no appear upscale. They only serve sushi and sashimi, if you want udon or chicken teriyaki bento boxes, they do not serve that here. They have a fair selection of specialty fish, some imported from Japan and New Zealand. The fish tastes fresh and this restaurant definitely knows how to handle and store their sashimi. The temperature was perfect when it was served (nothing makes me more mad than sushi restaurants serving super cold refrigerated sashimi). A lot of effort was put into plating and the service was great. The price was listed as $$ on yelp, but I thought it was more like $$$. For two of us, we had a $120 bill including an order of Sake. The tuna poki was a little too salty for my taste, but everything else tasted fresh and good! Check in on Yelp and get a free scoop of ice cream for dessert!

This is one of the best sushi places I've been to around the world. Freshest sashimi and cut expertly. The owners are 2 young guys who are doing an amazing job. My partner and I been here 2-3 times and they already know and recognize us. I highly recommend trying one of their sake flights, the Jumai Ginjos ones are exceptional. And the owner can tell you all about their make and how to drink it. When we first ordered it, he actually came over and explained that one of them tastes completely different if we were to have it served at room temperature instead of cold. He even gave us an extra glass of it to demonstrate. Attentive, friendly and amazing sashimi. What more could you want?! The place is small, so you may want to ring ahead and book a table. Especially for a busy night like Friday or Saturday. And its also Clement st, so parking is all off-street and can be a bitch. Consider coming here by public transport or taxi. (Seriously!!!).

Came in around 5pm, first ones seated. No air condition. It's not like other Japanese restaurants, very silent upon entering... if you want to hear "Irasshaimase" いらっしゃいませ like typical Japanese place, this one is not it. Reminds me of an "in-law" style place. Saw a lady walk in with her kid, speaking Cantonese, they went straight in the back... didn't come out. The fish comes in pinky sizes and room temperature. Ate it without soy sauce. Maybe because the cut is too small, because the flavor doesn't stick out in my mind. So I probably won't go again. For $85 they sure try to save on fans and air conditioning. Bathroom was clean which was a plus. But the toilet is very low powered. Not a high powered whoosh ... oh well, I think that last tissue clogged the toilet. Sorry. Wasn't me. *pro: free black sesame ice cream (yelp check-in)

So I absolutely had to change the review (even the boyfriend thought I had to). Their service is just too amazing. Both Eric and Jesse contacted me privately. They wanted to know if we were okay and if there was anything they could do for us. I love that they followed up really thoroughly. It wasn't just "Hey, you sure it was our food? Okay. Bye."

altho i have lived just three blocks away for years, last night was the first time i was privileged to enjoy not only the fresh fish but also the service! I was able to make a rezzie 30 minutes before the time we wanted to eat on a Tuesday night. Good thing I called b/c the place filled up minutes after we walked into the restaurant. Ask for their tea. It's delicious and piping hot, just the way tea should be served! Wild Aji (horse mackerel) fr Japan -- beautiful presentation (see picture). served w/ minced ginger and thinly sliced green onions on the side and eaten w/ a few droplets of ponzu sauce instead of wasabi and soy. (chef recommended last night) Aoebi (blue shrimp) -- fresh. a little gooey in texture for my taste but still a good choice for those who want something slightly diff than fish. Chu Toro (medium fat tuna belly) -- apparently this fish es muy popular! only 4 pieces left at 7:45pm! when i placed the toro onto my tongue, i understood why. i would have ordered more if they had more to serve. when sashimi melts in your mouth, you know you're winning! We sat for over an hour and a half, savoring the freshness of the fish, sipping on the tea, and laughing among ourselves. Although we were there during prime time dinner time, we never felt rushed, as our tea cups were refilled at least half a dozen times. i will prob see Arnold here sometime b/c "i'll [definitely] be back!"

I grew up in this area and have watched this place change a couple of times. The sushi spot it used to be was a small, casual, and decent joint. However since it has changed to Daigo, it is a bit more "up there" so the price point has gone up with more focus on the actual fish and not rolls. Daigo also offers a tad bit more of an exotic variety of fish. Most people say a reservation isn't necessary, but since this place is so small it does get full during dinner hours. I would recommend a reservation for the sushi bar. You seem to get your food a little bit faster this way, although the service can be excruciatingly slow as they get backed up with Eat24 orders. Normally I thought that sitting at the sushi bar meant the sushi chefs will take my order but they were super focused on making to go orders so my friend and I patiently waited for our waiter...so hungry.. My game plan was this: go with omakase, decide what I liked most and order more more of it, get some nigiri and if still hungry, maybe the Tokyo Cowboy roll that was recommended to me. My plan was genius and it worked. If you're a big eater, you will definitely need a roll because omakase got me nowhere near full. Quality of the fish was excellent. The uni was from Boston the night we dined there. Sweet, but a little too briny for my liking. What I was highly impressed with was the ikura. About 95% of sushi joints in SF make it way too salty. Daigo's ikura was perfection and not overly saturated in soy sauce (thank goodness). Really enjoyed the textures in the Tokyo Cowboy roll. The inside consisted of tempura-ed scallions and shiitake mushrooms with thinly sliced seared filet mignon on top, and an accompanying tataki sauce. Crunchy, delicate scallions with rich smokey shiitake and buttery meat goodness. It only needs a small dabble of the tataki sauce otherwise it can be too tangy and overpowering. My only complaint is that this place is SO HOT. I was sweating bullets sitting at the sushi bar in a tank top and jeans... and I only had 1/2 a beer! Please get a fan.. or AC..or something.. PLEASE! If not, I'll just sit by the door and ask to leave it open next time.

Although it's a little out of the way, if you're in the area then Daigo Sushi is a great place to go for extremely fresh fish. Although their roll portions are small, the taste of the fish is clean and the pairings complement different types of fish nicely. One of their most unique rolls is the Naruto roll, which actually does not come with rice and seaweed like typical sushi. Instead it's wrapped with cucumber, with a large portion of spicy tuna as well as sake. There is a light ponzu drizzled over it, leaving you with a spicy and slightly sweet bite. The cucumber adds a surprisingly good texture to the roll as a whole, and it was definitely an interesting dish to try! However, the other rolls were nothing extraordinary or particularly tasty in any way. As with any sushi spot, you pay for quality and this place is no different. Pick the right rolls and you'll leave feeling satisfied!

This place was delicious and the service was friendly. I came here on a Saturday night without reservations and we got seated immediately. It's a small restaurant so I do recommend reservations. We ordered almost all the special nigiri - negi toro three different kinds of blue fin tuna hotate (scallop) amaebi (raw shrimp) - added the shrimp heads into miso soup blue shirmp - requested to fry the shrimp heads uni They were all fresh and satisfying. My favorite were definitely the hamachi shots ($6), in which we ordered three each. I'll be coming back!

WOW. This is now one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. This hidden gem, tucked away in an obscure corner of Clement street, is home to some of the most fresh, unique, and tasty rolls in the city! I very much enjoyed: -Hamachi Shot with onions, a quail egg, truffle ponzu and rice balls -tempura green onion w/filet minion, shittake -tempura tuna roll, -baked salmon roll -free ice cream for Yelpers The combinations of flavors, presentation, and portions left me at a loss for words, as I was happily inhaling the sushi. It's a little pricey but trust- it's worth every penny!

Great little neighborhood restaurant for high quality sushi. I would give it 4 to 5 stars depending on what their specials are. I'd give them 5 star all the time if they had ocean trout and artic char a lot more. The few times they had it, it was pretty much our perfect sushi restaurant. The service there is 5 stars. I love their Naruto Roll, forgive their market schemes there, but a roll with cucumber as the nori, with no rice and just fish flavor with some sesame oil and soy sauce makes it their best roll there. Can't really complain about anything else other than lack of ample parking.

Daigo Sushi is 5 star worthy. Every dish is visually beautiful, delicious and so fresh. It's a tiny little spot in the Outer Richmond. I walked in and felt lucky to snag one of their last tables before the sushi bar filled up. I didn't mind sitting just 2 inches from other diners. It's all about the food for me! Check out the specials and note that you'll probably end up ordering quite a few dishes. As many others have said, try the Naruto Roll. The spicy tuna, salmon and hamachi wrapped into an untraditional cucumber roll is refreshing.

Ordered the 10 piece nigiri omakase here for $40. There is a wide selection of fish from Japan that you can't normally find in San Francisco. While the fish was fresh, the portions were a bit on the sad side. I could have ate at least 30 pieces before feeling completely full, and I'm a 5'2 105 pound Asian girl. Highlights were: - Horse Mackerel Nigiri - Blue Shrimp Nigiri - Salmon Belly Nigiri - Chu Toro (Medium Fatty Tuna) The nigiri comes brushed with soy sauce and wasabi like some of the more traditional joints in Japan so dipping isn't necessary. As usual, we chose to sit at the sushi bar so that we could be close to the action and talk to the sushi chefs. Once we found out that one of the chefs who is also the owner is Taiwanese, conversation began to flow. Turns out his uncle owns a completely different type of sushi resstaurant down in Mountain View, which we were all very familiar with - the AYCE sushi placed called Sushi 85. They also serve you free ice cream at the end! :)

Small in portion but packed with flavor, Daigo delicately presented the 10-piece chef's choice along with the Baked Salmon roll on beautiful onyx-colored wares. All rich in texture and flavor, the flavors were all very light, distinct, and, very fresh. Ice cream is generous, varietal, and a perfect way to end a fantastic experience with friends. I recommend calling thirty in advance to secure a table so you don't wait out in the... fog.

There is a little place near T's house that had this cult following. I don't do cult following. Despite the fact that my colleagues who had recently descended over to that same neighborhood had asked me to go there like they did. As if it's a dare. I refuse. But still I wanted sushi that one evening so we decided to take a walk. 1.3 miles. from Inner to Outer. Arrived at this little restaurant that could very easily be mistaken to be in Japan. Quaint like Japan, but not exactly quiet like in Japan. Two ladies were having some passionate discussions about work. We got to eavesdrop. A couple, regular to this shop, grabbed two bar stools next to us. Two other couples were wrapping up at 7 PM. People eat early in this part of world. Because it's Outer Richmond, it feels foreign, exotic and quite unlike the fanciful restaurants you'd see in the Marina, SoMa or the Mission. It's homey and practical. It is efficient. It is to the point. Omakase sashimi sampler. The rainbow roll. The hamachi jalapeño roll. All good quality fish, uncomplicated flavor. My favorite, however was their saba nigiri. I liked you could order nigiri in one piece. It made sense because that's how it was done in Japan and it's more appropriate to have different options. We took our time to finish the meal and then walked back. The wind had picked up as it normally did at this time of the day. We picked up our pace. Good sushi. No wait. Lovely spot. Fresh fish. Pleasant service. This is not my neighborhood. But I have become quite comfortable navigating in and around it, as of late. I might just navigate myself back to this spot.

In search for a Japanese restaurant for a cousin date and this place was the deal. The menu is simple and the place is small but there are table seats and there are bar seats. The waiter was real nice and attentive and patient with us when we were waiting on one more person. We ordered the following: HAMACHI SHOTS: Six bucks each shot, with quail egg, red onion, hamachi pieces, and some crunchy pieces I cannot recall in ponzu sauce. I downed this shot and man was it yummy!! I could have another but I needed to save the tummy for more yummy food. HAMACHI CAPACCIO: Slices of HAMACHI with jalapeño slices, red onion, and tobiko on top drizzled with what looks like sriracha. One of my cousins LOVE HAMACHI and she loved this dish, I would too if I could handle the jalapeño, I did try this and it was good but so spicy!! NARUTO ROLL: As everyone has already said, this roll is top notch! Thinly sliced cucumber wrapped around spicy tuna with HAMACHI, avocado, and salmon. The ponzu sauce that this roll comes with is good enough that you don't need soy sauce to dip unlike other rolls. This roll is a must try. 4 piece this roll. WHITE TUNA: Pretty standard sushi roll with white tuna on the inside avocado, and pickled radish, with citrus miso drizzled over it. I loved the crunchy texture of the radish that comes in this roll and felt that the radish kind of over powered the white tuna cause I barely tasted it. JAMES ROLL: A spicy tuna roll with tempura shrimp, asparagus roped with seared HAMACHI and jalapeño. I didn't taste this but presentation looked nice and the cousins loved it. SEAFOOD SALAD: Spring greens with pieces of assorted sashimi and a miso dressing. Pretty healthy meal here, comes in a big bowl, and just this dish by itself can make you full. Again, fresh fish!! I would like to try more here probably another day because it really is good food. Oh btw, check in offer free ice cream!

Came here spontaneously, after going to China Beach and decided to yelp nearby places to eat! I got the seafood sashimi salad and it came on a bed of greens. There was a decent amount of sashimi and they all tasted nice and fresh. The ponzu sauce that came with it was great and very refreshing. My friend got the the hamachi shot which she said was delicious. She also got the Hamachi Carpaccio and naruto roll which was spicy tuna wrapped in cucumber. The presentation of everything was beautiful and artfully plated. My friend and I agreed that all the sushi was very fresh and the menu was simple and straightforward. There were no crazy rolls or anything like that because the menu really just highlighted the fresh fish. The best thing was that we checked in on yelp and even got complimentary ice cream. They had 3 flavors red bean, black sesame, and green tea. When our ice cream came, I was surprised how they nice big scoops and didn't skimp since they ice cream was free. Decent prices, fresh fish, and even dessert? Definitely a good stop!

If you are looking for affordable high quality sushi in San Francisco, look no further. I was introduced to this place by some friends who raved about what a great value this place is, so I had to check it out for myself. Well, this place lived up to the hype, fantastic staff and great sushi. If you are a true sushi lover, you know how difficult it is to find good, affordable sushi in the city, but this place definitely qualifies. My girlfriend and I did the omakase, but wait for it... Pro Tip, don't order the omakase on the menu ask to do a more traditional omakase and ask for a true chef's choice! This is how you truly spoil yourself. The reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is simply due to atmosphere. If they updated the interior this would definitely be a 5 star review. That being said, if they did that, I don't know if they would be able to keep the costs down, so Daigo don't ever change!!! I mean where can you do a true omakase and get out for around $120... for TWO PEOPLE! If you know somewhere else that is actually good, please let me know. This has become a favorite spot for me, and I encourage people to check it out for themselves!

It had been a while since I had sushi, so the roommate and I decided to order delivery. We ordered via eat24hours.com . January 2014 *James roll ($13), Spider roll ($7.50), Buri toro nigiri ($5), Ankimo nigiri ($5) yelp.com/biz_photos/daig… *Moriawase sashimi ($22) yelp.com/biz_photos/daig… *Beef tataki ($10) yelp.com/biz_photos/daig… *Eryngi tempura ($8) yelp.com/biz_photos/daig… I normally don't want a full order of ankimo, so I was happy they offered an ankimo nigiri. It was rich and creamy. I enjoyed the tempura mushrooms and the buri toro had a nice fattiness to it. The sashimi was pretty good as well. I didn't really care for the beef tataki as it was dry. The roommate seemed to enjoy his rolls. Great sushi option for delivery.

I came in craving good uni! But right when I arrived our server said they were out of uni. BUMMER :( Came here with a friend from Michigan and wanted to show her west coast sushi! Upon arriving, our server had three seats open for us at the bar. We ordered yellowtail carpaccio, salmon belly, albacore belly, chu toro, naruto roll, dragon roll and 7oz of Oka! Everything was pretty fresh. Good variety of fish and selection. I enjoyed my time at the bar. Would I come back here when I'm in SF? Yes! Good sushi for a reasonable price! Our water was always filled and we were always checked up on. I really wish they had uni though because I was CRAVING uni. Other then that, Daigo I'll be back!

Daigo has become my favorite sushi restaurant in SF. The fish is always fresh and high in quality. They also have a wide variety of sashimi and it's always quite difficult to decide which to get. But they do always have some type of toro which is awesome. The one roll I always get is the toyko cowboy. Although its the only roll that doesn't have fish in it, it's still my favorite roll here. The sauce has a nice sweet, tangy, savory flavor to it and the beef on top of the roll is very tender. This place is also very small and can get busy quick so I suggest arriving early and parking can be difficult. The service is always friendly and informative. I highly recommend you come here if you want some great sushi and sashimi.

Delicious!!!!!! Fresh fish, amazing specials and wonderful service. My new favorite sushi spot.

Food was good, nice presentation. A little expensive, but I guess that is what happens when you only eat sashimi. Service was slow on a Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. and we were the only customers. It's all good though.

Went there because of the reviews. I found a different story. Firstly, very poor and slow service. We ordered a lot if nigiri sushi, but could not taste the freshness of fish, all covered up (including rice) with a lot of heavy sauces and herbs. Very disappointed.

Dined here after watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and now I dream of nigiri at Daigo! Worth the trek to Outer Richmond. Attentive staff, clean and intimate atmosphere (with great music!), skillful sushi chefs, quality cuts, beautiful presentation, and incredible selection. After living in the Bay Area for so long it's such a treat to find a place that offers fish I've yet to try. And, as usual, I saved the uni for dessert; so fresh and creamy! Daigo is definitely a gem.

Fresh fish. Really tasty! Only complaint is that the edamame was cold (as if it had been refrigerated) when it reached our doorstep for delivery, while everything else was still really warm. Ordered delivery twice and its super fast! Yay!

This place serves pretty solid japanese food with great service. It's a small restaurant with a huge selection of sake. I think it's a little pricey for the quality and portion of food. We had variety of sushi and specials, but the sashimi and sushi are not as fresh or creative as Kabuto. I went here with my friend, and we ordered the blue fin tuna. We didn't feel satisfy after we came out, and went straight to Kabuto. We ordered the blue fin tuna and salmon sashimi at Kabuto, and you can definitely taste a difference. We definitely agree Kabuto was better than Daigo.

I am fairly satisfied with this Japanese restaurant. Good and fresh sashimi. No bento boxes here. This place strictly serves rolls, nigiri, and sashimi.

  • Bellarussia S.

They were okay. Nothing special. Not authentic Japanese, it's Chinese. I don't understand the hype. Inside was kinda small and the server is not professional enough. She's young. I do like the fact that they do delivery.

The place is alright but Delivery is totally overpriced. 38 dollars for 5 pieces of Sashimi and 5 pieces of Nigiri.

This place is amazing! Jesse, one of the owners, is so generous and attentive. He gives great service and the food is spectacular. Their sushi is the best I've ever had! The hamachi was full of flavor and layered with different types of texture that plays with your palate. We had the chef's choice special with different types of sashimi and there wasn't a piece included that we didn't like. Parking can be hard specially on weekends, but it is worth the wait!

The sushi was very fresh and delicious, and the service was friendly and attentive. I accidentally ordered caviar sushi, and even that was good. It's probably some of the best food I've had in SF with no wait on a Saturday night.

This spot is AMAZING! I'm so happy to have it in the neighborhood. It's small and intimate inside, perfect for a date. The food is fresh and delicious. I was very impressed with everything we tried. The Hamachi carpaccio was fantastic and all of the sashimi melted in your mouth. I felt that the value was great too. The quality of the fish was well worth the price. Service was very good too. I cannot wait to go back and try it again.

Great quality sushi in a small, inviting environment, at a reasonable price. The menu is limited to nigiri, maki, sashimi and a few small side items/appetizers. Service was perfect: Tea was provided right away and refilled continuously. It was never hard to get a waiter's attention.. Worth the trip out to the Richmond

Can't believe Daigo has almost 5 stars on Yelp! I have tried a lot of sushi and wasn't too impressed. Flavors were bland, rolls were not fancy, and they used a lot of rice as filler. Also the portions were very small. Paid over $100 for dinner for 2! For $100 I expect to be full and satisfied but Daigo didn't meet my expectations. For the $$$ and quality of food I would not eat here again even though I live so close.

Are you looking for AMAZING sushi? Is sashimi and nigiri your bag? Do rolls smothered in various disgusting sauces encrusted in "crunchy" make you cry? If so - this place is for you! Pristine fish prepared masterfully with some of the sweetest staff you can imagine. Extremely reasonably priced (for the quality) this place seriously is a must. This spot is relatively new otherwise it would be impossible to get into. The quality trumps many other longer established sushi bars that charge more and offer long lines and not much else. You will not be disappointed.

Daigo Sushi was a delightful lunch spot off the main drag of Geary Street's abundance of Asian cuisine. I came here on a Saturday last month--the fish was very fresh and reasonably priced. I had the Naruto roll: spicy tuna, sake, hamachi, avocado, wrapped in a thinly sliced cucumber. The best part? A yelp check-in got us a scoop each of ice cream--make sure to try the fresh ginger and black sesame!

Great Great Great! If you love sushi and trying new things go to Daigo Sushi. It's a small place, but the foods good. They have only sushi no noodles or things you'd find at a normal sushi restaurant. I had more 4 kids and I was worried about that after I saw the menu, but they had salmon that my two little kids loved and miso soup. They also gave me a side of sushi rice for them and were very accommodating. The sushi was so good that my 12 year old was eating it all. MY 7 year old got a crab salad that she enjoyed. Try anything we ate I think quite a bit of a variety on the menu and we liked everything!! Great service too, sometimes at restaurants like this when we bring our 4 kids they act annoyed by it. ( my kids are very good at restaurants) but they were so nice and friendly!

I would give this place 4 1/2 stars if possible, with the 1/2 star deduction due to the size of the place- it is very small. That said, my husband and I walked in about 9:30 this past Saturday night and were seated right away at the only table open, which happened to be by the window...nice ! Mind you, we had walked past first and since there didn't seem to be a table available, we kept walking up Clement...past several other sushi restaurants with plenty of room...but something made us go back to Daigo. Good thing we did, because the sushi was great, and the staff was even better. We started out with edamame(cold- different ) while we checked out the menu. We had the salmon citrus roll (yum!), rainbow roll, Sashimi- Hamachi, Binnaga, and Sake. Everything was beautifully presented, and very fresh ! After my husband tried the XH beer (matured in sake cask )the manager recommended he try the Hitachino Pale Ale, so I did too...really good! After some discussion of the pros and cons of various Japanese beers, he sent over two sakes to try...nice...good thing we were only two blocks from our borrowed condo. We will definitely be back, thank you Jesse !

Went to this place with my gf for lunch the other day. The first thing we noticed were their prices (pretty expensive and no lunch menu). Everyone that works there is VERY nice and polite, however they did forget to get our hot sake until midway through our lunch. The sushi quality is very good, but considering the price i didnt think it really added up. With some other places around, I dont necessarily know if i will come back here. That's hard for me to say because the people that work there are so nice, but it was really just too expensive for what it is.

Excellent service! Excellent price! Portions sizes are perfect. The chef took his time to prepare each sushi roll to perfection. Hole in the wall restaurant. Wouldn't have found it without Yelp's help.

Daigo sushi is the best value sushi in San Francisco. Located on Clement near PPQ, the sushi. If you sit at the bar and are friendly with the chef, Eric, he'll throw you free sake and dessert. We ordered omkase and seasonal sake, he offered us the bottle. Afterwards free mochi dessert! Love Daigo! I'm willing to come all the way here from nob hill/financial district...

Diego Sushi is a newer spot in the Richmond neighborhood of San Francisco. I happily took Yelp on for their $10 for 20 deal. I promptly ordered the edamame ($3), miso soup ($2), and two particular Maki rolls ($5-$7). Appreciated the complimentary hot tea as well. It was all fresh and well prepared. I liked that they had online order-cards encouraging that channel for $5 off, as well. An up-and-comer in a neighborhood that is, likewise, on the rise. Small, but clean and cozy. Service was excellent. Will give sashimi a try next time I'm in town.

So glad I tried this place! Had the rainbow roll and unagi avocado roll; the unagi avocado was good but I really loved the rainbow roll. The green tea was unusual but delicious and service was superb. My favorite part though, was the server-recommended black sesame ice cream. It was so amazing and unique! Went with a friend but would definitely recommend this as a date place: perfect environment to talk!

I was looking for a sushi restaurant that would deliver to the Presidio in SF, which is how I stumbled on Daigo Sushi. The Naruto roll was my favorite. I liked the Hamachi Carpaccio and Albacore Tataki as well. The Kids loved all the rolls, specially the eel roll w/ shrimp tempura. There are better and more authentic Japanese sushi places in SF, however this place is great if you want your sushi delivered. Sushi is my nephew and nieces favorite food and I needed a fresh sushi delivery and that's what we got. Fresh fish/sushi delivered. I'm a sushi snob, and yes, I would order sushi from here again if I needed it delivered.

Yum! Make a reservation! I didn't make one and had to wait about 30 minutes. If this happens to you, don't wait in the cold. Go grab a beer next door at Hard Knox. I walk by Diago all the time, so finally the BF and I decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! Diago has fresh fish and the price isn't bad. It's hard to give this place a chance when Shimo is close... but DO IT. My favorite roll was the Naruto roll (spicy tuna, sake, hamachi, and avocado wrapped in cucumber and served with ponzu). It was light, refreshing, and so flavorful. Dinner for two was just under $130 with tax and tip and we were both stuffed. I'm not sure if I remember exactly, but I think we had two beers, Chu Toro, Aburi Kama Toro, Uni, Naruto roll, Baked Salmon roll, Tuna Poke, Salmon Carpaccio, and Beef Tataki.

Two words: Hamachi shots! -- OMG, I had to savor the amazing flavors for awhile before I ate the rolls. I still dream about this...yum. We ordered the Tokyo Cowboy, Baked Salmon, and Salmon Avocado rolls. All the rolls were pretty good, but the Baked Salmon roll takes the cake! I will come back to try more in the very near future. If you check in, they gave you a complimentary scoop of ice cream!

Tiny place. Very fresh and well prepared rolls and nigiri by my never-been-to-Japan standards. Service a little disorganized - we got charged for one roll we didn't get, and were given another meant for a different table. But a small matter. This place is an asset to one of my favorite funky hoods, the OR.

This is my go-to neighborhood sushi spot. Their sashimi and roles are very solid. Every fish I have ordered has been very fresh. I eat there about 2X a month and have never had bad service.

After a scenic Sunday hike last week at Land's End, a sudden sushi craving started to kick in. Unfortunately, there are not many good sushi restaurants open for lunch, even on weekends. Thankfully, my trusty yelp app lead me to Daigo. It's a small place, with just a handful of tables and about 4 seats at the sushi bar. I quickly noticed that the service was very friendly and welcoming. I didn't have very high expectations for the food, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavor of everything I tasted. As as far as sashimi, everything was delicious and fresh, but the ocean trout (unimasu) was my favorite! As for the rolls, the salmon citrus and the creamy scallop rolls were both superb. And if you still aren't convinced, they also offer free ice cream with your check in - can't beat that! I will definitely return to Daigo if I'm in the area! They also deliver, which is awesome!

Amazing fish, creative chefs, inspired rolls make this one of my favorite sushi bars anywhere. The Uni was unbelievable and the Noruto roll wrapped in cucumber was insanely good. The creamy scallop roll was also a favorite as was the hamachi toro.... Make sure to sit at the bar and watch the chefs work their magic.

I am very picky about sushi. There are only very few places that I will eat sushi, Yume in Alameda and Sushi Ota in San Diego are my faves. But this place really surprised me since I didn't expect a Chinese owned sushi place would satisfy my sushi cravings. I was served a variety of delicious nigiri by the talented young sushi chef. He mixed his own sauce and brushes each of the nigiri before presenting them to us. Each nigiri has all the flavoring it needs so there is no reason to add extra soy sauce.

I loved this place, I have been coming to this sushi location for 17 years! I have seen 3 owners pass through here and all have been great. I am happy that the torch was passed to Daigo!!! They know what they are doing and have a great menu and good prices. They are keeping up with trends and expectations of the real sushi eater. Which I hope they continue! They also delivery!!!

The people here are hard-working and deliver OUTSTANDING food! My sweetheart and I sat here for Valentines, and watched the two sushi masters ready over fifty rolls during our stay. Each roll was made with preciseness, excellence, and definitely passion. If I were to write a review, just posting what I heard in the place at the time, it would be like this: "Excellent, delicious, phenomenal, amazing, and extremely juicy!" I read that the "Naruto Roll" was a must try, and thought it would be just ok...IT WAS THE BEST ROLL! 10/10, refreshing and BURSTS of flavor in its simplicity. It's a small place, but definitely worth the wait if crowded.

Oh me oh my! Was this place amazing! This little shop is in the corner so make sure you look out for it. It's a tiny place with minimal ventilation but it was well worth it! Once you walk in, all you smell is fish. Not the bad old fishy smell, but this smell of fresh fish. That's how you know a place is good! ;] Food: Wow, I don't even know where to begin! My friends and I ordered so much food that I can't remember mostly what we ordered but I'll try to list it (as I try to retrace my steps on what we ordered) Hamachi Shot: OH.MY .GOODNESS! This was the best dish out of everything we ordered. It was def. my number one. I was wary of it since it was a raw egg and all that jazz but! The hamachi was so sweet! It was cut into little pieces and with the combination of the onion, avocado, tobiko, AND TRUFFLE PONZU SAUCE was amazeballs!!!! Mmm...I'm still dreaming about it =) Naruto: This roll was really good too! It's wrapped without seaweed. They use cucumber as a binding wrap and it's basically filled with three kinds? of fish. Salmon, spicy tuna, and sake. Yummmmmm. The cucumber was super good as well (and i'm not a veggie person). (my second fav roll) Cowboy: Not a fish "sushi". It's topped with filet mignon, shiitake mushroom, and tempura scallion. Yum! I think by this point, I tried so many fish rolls that this was an alright roll to me. The sauce was good as well! It was slightly spicy giving it an interesting taste. Caterpillar: I mean, this one is the most generic roll we ordered. You can never go wrong with unagi. Yum! On to the raw stuff (if I can remember) Had the salmon sashimi and it was really fresh! It was sweet and had all that salmon-y goodness. Yum! Hamachi toro nigiri: WOW. Like....really wow. Obviously it was fresh and it completely melted in my mouth! I've never had ones that melted in my mouth. Definite plus. It was expertly sliced into very thin pieces. Maybe that's why it melted in my mouth? Since most places has a slightly bigger chunk. Def. worth it! Service: The waiters and waitresses were really nice and super efficient. Every time they see an empty plate, they take it away. Unlike most sushi places, this place has everything come out in order so it doesn't take away the taste of the sushi. For example, they would come out slowly with the sashimi first because those are usually the lighter taste of the course. Then they'll come out with the rolls which are heavier in tastes so it seems like they give the customers a feel for the taste of their food. Basically from light, to heavy so they can enjoy their food. Service with the food coming out is relatively slow though. We got there around 6:50 and we left around 8. It was a nice place to talk and catch up with friends. All in all, yes! I will come back...well worth the trip out there since I live in the East Bay. Can't wait to bring people here as well. Not exactly the best place for big groups but I'd bring my group of friends just for the heck of it! The food is so good!

Absolutely incredible! Delicious nigiri and special rolls. Great, attentive service. Daigo maintains the dignity and quality of the fish they serve. Definitely recommend getting different nigiri, we ordered Salmon, Albacore, and Uni. He came back and told us the salmon and albacore were both belly cuts, DELICIOUS! We were so impressed by the deliciousness, we asked for a recommendation from our server who suggested the Blue Shrimp which came with a perfectly warm, crunchy shrimp head and huge subtly sweet yet spicy piece of shrimp nigiri. Then, he gave us free ice cream!!! I also recommend the Naruto roll and getting the ginger and green tea ice creams as a perfect meal finisher. This place does get busy on the weekends but for good reason!!! I was able to go for lunch today, but definitely say it's worth the wait!

I'm not a big fan of sushi of but I really enjoyed the hamachi & the Naruto roll. The fish is definitely a lot more fresh than other sushi joints & you can tell the quality of the food is better. In regards to originality, it seems pretty average. Pretty pricey - luckily I had a Yelp deal so that helped take down $15. Otherwise, the bill would've been around $70 (which is unfortunate because my boyfriend & I weren't even full...) Great place to go if you want good quality sushi; but don't come if you're looking to get a big meal & be full.

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants...EVER! (Bear in mind that I eat sushi almost every day.) The rolls blew us away. Understatedly elegant decor. Impeccable service - constant tea refills. We LOVED it. Note: this block is chock full of good restaurants.

Very decent sushi joint. I love the way they serve each dish one by one so you can truly enjoy each one of them. The service here is impeccable and so welcoming. The Beef Tataki was so delicious and had some very nice spicy kick. However, the Spicy Hotate Hand Roll was so small and not so spicy.

Amazing sushi. I had the hamachi bowl which had about 12 slices of hamachi over hot rice. It was fresh and delicious and would definitely warrant coming back again. Most of all Yelp helped me to get free green tea ice cream!!! I would recommend coming here for lunch when its less crowded and you can interact with the waiter and chef to ask for recommendations on what is fresh and delicious.

I've been looking for a nearby sushi place that uses fresh ingredients for a long time. I mean how hard is it to find a place that uses fresh ingredients in mostly proper proportions. There's a 5-6 person bar seating and about 20-22 people table seating. Daigo is right on the corner next to Hard Knoxs. When you order be sure you speak clearly because I got a seaweed salad instead of a seafood salad. The seafood salad has a really nice serving of salmon and tuna sashimi. I had the Hamachi Toro which I feel that I've tasted softer-melter fish, however, it does not mean it's bad here. Give it a try. The California Roll which has real crab meat. It was made in proper proportions. James roll (not on the menu, it's a "special") and it's kinda spicy, but you can easily swipe off the spice off to the side. The Salmon Avocado Roll has a nice serving of salmon inside and the avocado is a nice large chunk. The Negihama Roll has a lot of rice and really minimal amount of fish. Next time I come back I will try the Salmon Citrus Roll! If only parking wasn't so bad in this area, I wouldn't have to plan ahead of time the next time I come.

Holy sheeit! This is some of the best sushi I've ever had in my life! My lady agrees! Very fresh fish, extensive varieties, and very well prepared! Portions are a bit on the small side and we would have preferred slightly bigger cuts of fish but that didnt take away from the fact that everything tasted amazing. We had the really good fried truffle mushroom dumpling things and about 13 kinds of nigiri and were still hungry so we had to order 3 makes to fill our bellies! Looking forward to a return visit! Btw, very attentive service too!

Best sushi in CA! My job calls for me to travel across the entire state, and this is the only sushi place I call home. Most selection on toro and quality fish! Always provide incredible customer service. Best in the state for sure. Thanks Daigo!

Everything was AMAZING. This was by far the best sushi I've had in YEARS. I came in with two friends and we ordered a variety of rolls and nigiri, both traditional and fusion. The food was exquisite - nicely constructed, all elements complimenting each other, everything executed perfectly, and amazing presentation. The staff was very friendly, and the waiter poured us several samples of sake that he thought we'd like with the food we'd ordered, based on our initial order -- and he was right. The waitress also kept the water and tea coming. Did I mention that the food was exquisite? That the presentation was excellent?

This is just another overhyped sushi restaurant like "live sushi" The food here are beautiful but are you here to enjoy the taste of the food? or just how beautiful they look? I did not go for the usual rolls when i came into this restaurant, instead I ordered a bunch of the Sashimi dishes the owner recommended. I am a very straight forward person, none of the dishes he recommended was able to impress me. I was told they have fish that are rare and other restaurants do not have. I ordered and they came out to be definitely not the freshest sashimi i have ever had. I was told not to use any wasabi or soy sauce and just taste the freshness of the fish.. except they were all so bland !!! to the point they just tasted like defrosted fish. The Beef Tataki was just plain horrible, tasteless, ordinary beef.... Spent over 90 dollars for 2 people and left starving..... I don't understand how people can give this place such a good rating... I Must have high standard... It is true.. once you had the best.... the rest just taste like trash

I love sushi and I am so picky... At Daigo everything was so good! My favorite is Naruto and snow crab hand roll :) And ohhhh they have the best green tea in the world

Service deserves 4 stars. However we ordered sashimi lunch, usually in japanese restaurant it should come with soup, salad and rice, this place asks you to choose either soup or salad, and no rice. Naruto roll was good, but the tuna from sashimi lunch was not very fresh, a little bit fishy. But I still think this is a place to try some pretty creative sushi rolls. !

Highly rated on yelp and grub hub. So had high expectations. The menu was a little slim but went ahead and ordered. They had walu, which was a plus, but it tasted bad. The cuts of fish and veggies in the rolls were very very thin. Would not go back.

Just perfect! Great service, reasonable price and most important amazing sushi! The dragon roll was yummy...

Hmm when I see a bunch of 5 stars at a brand new restaurant I always suspect if they are really true reviews and not just the cousin or bestie of the restaurant owner. Especially when the reviews says "real sushi followed by" hamachi shots". Sorry but real sushi places don't have such things!! Anyhoo, the hubby and I were really craving sushi sho, but considering we were not in the eastbay and didn't get in line an hour early for first seating, we roamed around the city thinking of a good place to eat sushi on a sunday night. I had seen this as a new place on yelp and saw the good reviews and had bookedmarked it. Conflicted, I told the hubby to have medium to low expectations of this place considering it is a chinese owned japo place with jive as rolls. We forged ahead anyways and found parking right away in my old stomping grounds on 26th and clement. The place is located right next to hard knox cafe, another asian owned, mediocore place to eat on Clement. For 9pm on a Sunday night, the place was almost full; a good sign. The overly loud lounge music is sort of overkill and just trying too hard for me. We ordered: Hamachi belly nigiri sake nigiri albacore tuna nigiri rainbow roll (yes jive ass roll but we had to fill out bellies with something) Miso soup x2 Sashimi salad Everything was OK but you can tell the skillset of the chef was subpar. Some of the fish was completely unevenly cut, with some of the sake having parts of the skin on it. (fish was not cut cleanly and half of it was fish and the other half had the white reminants of parts of the fish skin) I have never seen this before! the rice itself was OK. seasoned OK. Nothing mind blowing. the rainbow roll was the worst. it was like it was made by a 6th grader, uneven cuts of fish, small, and just wasn't the most appetizing. The sashimi salad was good in taste and I enjoyed the flavor of the dressing but for $9, i expected something better than butter knife cuts of fish with skin still on it and a few lettuce leaves. The bits of walu in it still had the black chewy skin on it. REALLY? The best sashimi salad is still at Kanpai in LA near LAX. Overall like i said to the hubby, to have 'medium to low" expectations and you won't be disappointed. I don't think i will be back. bleh.

Small and cozy space... Food is really good but very small portion and pricey. Would not go here unless we are prepared to spend at least $100 for 2. But a good neighborhood joint

YUM. Daigo Sushi opened a couple of months ago when Sakura, its predecessor, closed its doors. I was hoping a.) the food would be good and b.) they deliver. I was pleased to find that the food is outstanding and they DO deliver! I've been meaning to write a review for a while now, but last night finally put my a** in gear. I took an out-of-town-friend-with-discerning-palate for dinner and he was blown away. We ordered everything from hamachi shooters to the James roll, Tokyo cowboy and Baked salmon roll. All amazing. The nigiri is incredibly fresh and the fish just melts in your mouth. Add to that, Daigo has a vast beer and sake selection not available at any other restaurant I've been to. Jesse and Eric are awesome and despite having just eaten there last night, I want to order again tonight. May have to make my boyfriend pay. ;) You CANNOT go wrong here. Mmmmmmm.

Great little hole in the wall. The nigiri was fabulous. I tried two rolls, dragon and baked salmon rolls. Dragon was good, baked salmon was meh...

I saw a favorable write up of this place right after it opened and decided it was worth a try. I ended up here on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch, it was super chill in the late afternoon and the service was great. The place is small. The sushi was excellent quality, fresh and well prepared. There is some cooked food on the menu, limited to the fryer. If your seeking more traditional sushi this is a good spot. We had the fried trumpet mushrooms appetizer, it was good but nothing exceptional. As for the sushi, it was great. We had 6 rolls but by far the highlight of the visit was the Tokyo Cowboy Roll with tataki sauce. Amazing. The spicy tuna was perfect. They use high quality wasabi and soy sauce, you can taste the difference. For desert I had some salmon Nigiri. It was all super fresh these guys have great execution.

Simply put, Daigo fills my heart (and mouth) with joy. The previous owners sold, and this place was renovated and reopened with staggering speed. The ambiance is nice - with the quick turnaround and the expense that carries, they made it a sweet spot, with updates to the furniture pending (according to the owner!) The food was fantastic, catapulting Diago to the top of my list for sushi joints in SF. This is the kind of place where once you have one bite you'll feel prepared to try those pieces that you're normally too intimidated to go for (read: Raw quail egg, and Monkfish liver) and your life will be forever changed. The staff is fantastic - attentive, and polite. The owners are top notch - one, prepares beautiful, delicious food, while the other walks around and insures his patrons are happy and comfortable. While we were there, we had the pleasure of sharing a beer with the owner, and later, some delicious sake (being total sake n00bs we shot the first round, and he graciously refilled our glasses while I turned 50 shades of embarrassed). All in all, I would recommend you add this to your go to list for sushi spots!

Went here on a whim with a friend and I love love love the sushi. You can really taste the quality of sushi. Everything was buttery goodness. I loved sitting at the sushi bar because we were able to se what was going out o other tables and we could ask directly what type of fish it was so we could then in turn test it out for ourselves. This is probably TMI, but after dinner my stomach hurt a bit and my bathroom visit wasn't so pleasant. I'm still on the fence about going back, since my taste buds enjoyed it, but the rest of me did not. :/

Been here three times. If you love california rolls and shrimp tempura, this is not the place for you. If you love fresh fish for incredible nigiri and omakase, then Daigo is a must. Service is also very good.

The restaurant and menu were small, but the sushi was the best I've ever had! The rolls where not your typical common rolls, they very different. Like the white out roll a must! or the shooters for appetizers. We just ordered a few appetizers along with some rolls and I was like wow! Will def have to come back again soon!

Yum! Had: Hamachi shot - ok Omakase nigiri - yum! Served seasoned. I really appreciate seasoned nigiri. It means they took the time to make it tasty for me Toro taster - 4 different toros. melts in your mouth!!! Creamy scallop roll - the roll itself was good already without the scallop. California roll - good. They use real crab Blue shrimp - always good for me because I am a shrimp lover Escolar - ok Uni - hubby says it was creamy I was a happy sushi camper :]

We decided to try this place based on all the good reviews. People aren't lying. This is probably the most fresh sushi I've EVER had. Great options and the staff is great. You couldn't tell by the outside that this would be a great place but it is. I like the smaller restaurant feel. You can enjoy your food without a lot of noise. 5+ stars

I eat a lot of sushi. And I mean A LOT of sushi. This place definitely has good fresh fish and some creative rolls and appetizers. Not a bad spot to go to if you're ever in the area and craving sushi. Wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but it's solid, albeit a bit pricey for what it is. The only thing I would highly recommend is the hamachi shots! I could eat a dozen of them and not get tired of it. Service was not great, almost inattentive, but I think they're all very nice at least.

I think I just discovered my fave sushi place in SF! It was amazeballs Having just been to Tokyo this year, I've become a bit of sushi snob. No rolls, no sashimi - nigiri only! We had the blue shrimp, unagi, ika, hamachi and omakase and it was all delicious. I didn't need to use soy sauce with any of my sushi, which is quite a statement. Definitely returning.

LOVED IT! Don't go here if you are in love with grocery store sushi. This is way more of a fish restaurant than it is a sushi restaurant. Our server was really well versed in ALL of the menu items and convinced us to explore outside of our typical 'go -to' items. beautiful presentation in an unpretentious setting. We will certainly return. Tuna poke & halibut (i think) carpaccio were outstanding.

I am rather disappointed with this place, considering that it is one of the highest rated sushi places in SF on yelp. The place is very small, and the sushi is rather simple. We order the tuna poke, which was not even comparable to the one at Pacific Catch. The filet mignon carpaccio, also rather simple. For rolls, we got the Tokyo Cowboy which was pretty good, but almost the same thing as the filet mignon carpaccio. We also got the baked salmon, which was not bad, but a little cold, and also smaller and worse than Blue Fin that is a few blocks away. Maybe I just came into this place with high expectations, but overall I am rather unimpressed. Also, the rolls are pretty small.

Just finished a delicious dinner. We had a couple of sake flights and basically ate our way through the appetizers and some of the daily sashimi specials. Everything was delicious, fresh, and wonderfully presented. The service was also totally on point--you can tell the staff really cares about the food that they're serving. The decor is "no frills" but the food itself is beautiful to look at and eat so we'll certainly be back!

This location seemed to have changed ownership twice since I first became aware. Somehow I never thought of venturing to this corner under I read some of the positive reviews about the latest ownership here. I was not disappointed. For $14, I ordered the five-piece chef's choice omakaze sashimi and enjoyed the selection (for which I posted a photo). They were all fresh, tasty, and fairly unique (as in something different from the run-of-the mill selection). It's a good way to be introduced to a small selection of omakaze sashimi without a strain on the wallet (like a restaurant in San Mateo for which I inquired the price of a similar five-piece chef's choice). For the dinner I also ordered the saba (mackerel sashimi) which I very much enjoyed. I also got the hamachi carpaccio, which is an item that I generally like but somehow it didn't stand out very much here. Anyway, that doesn't mean I won't order it again if I come. At the time I went (which was last Tuesday night) there was a Yelp check-in offer for a free ice cream. Thumbs up for that!

First time sushi dinner with no soy sauce and wasabi. Their sushi is perfectly seasoned on its own. I came with a yelp deal but even without I think the price is reasonable considering the quality of the food. Sesame ice cream with check in is icing on the cake! No noodles here so can't bring my kid but I'll save this spot for adult only dinner date. Will be back.

This sushi spot in the outer Richmond opened recently so we decided to check it out for lunch. Albacore tataki- other places make it better Albacore toro nigiri- fish tasted dry Spider roll- liked this one Creamy scallop roll- indifferent towards this one Hamachi jalapeño roll- best part of the meal The food met my expectations overall but a tad pricey for the quality. The restaurant was run by two young men, one chef and one server. Even though we were one of two parties eating there at the time, service was sorely lacking.

For the quality of fish and customer service, I would give Daigo 5 stars. I have experienced the full spectrum of their selection and I can honestly say that their fish is always fresh and top notch quality. My one qualm, and reason for the loss of a star, is that while sitting at the sushi bar, I noticed that one of the chefs was periodically using his iphone. I have seen this on more than one occasion. After each use he would merely dab his hands on a wet towel and go back to making sushi. Phones travel with you everywhere (including the bathroom) and are rarely washed. I do not think a damp towel is sufficient to clean hands before handling sushi. If you are going to use your phone in the kitchen please sufficiently clean your hands after. Having said that, I am not a germaphobe and will continue to eat at this delicious sushi restaurant.

I got there at 9:30pm and I was greeted with a smile. My girlfriend and I ordered edemame, (soybean) wakeme, (seaweed salad), Hamachi_ Carpacio, Unagi, and salmon nigiri, the oder came out out and let me tell you, the portions were tiny, small would be an unerstatement...I order a hot tea which I didn't get until the end of my meal, plus I had to remind the server twice then he finally brought it...service was eh...unattentive and they were out of items..I spent a total of $48 for dinner and I felt ripped off after...I'm never coming back...Shimo or Blue fin a much better choice...

One of the best sushi places in town I'd say and I've been to mannnyyy (especially in the fidi, soma area) -sashimi combo -- 5 / 5 stars thick slices -naruto -- 4 / 5 but only comes with 4 pieces...bit too few -creamy scallop -- 4.5 / 5 pretty unique -hamachi carpaccio -- 4.5 / 5 wish the pieces were a bit thicker but it was delicious -ginger ice cream -- simply ice cream and came free with a yelp check-in! Totalled to about $60 for two people with tip. pretty decent value.

Solid sushi spot in the Richmond. All the fish we had was super fresh so it's sad that they're known for their baked salmon and the Tokyo Cowboy (rolls wrapped in raw-ish beef). Don't get me wrong, they were good but check out the sashimi if you can. Prices weren't cheap but not unreasonable. The hamachi shot was definitely a must get. If parking didn't take forever to find (I finally found a spot on Geary), I might come out here more often.

Flavortown! My favorite items ordered yesterday both had quail egg cracked on top - Hamachi shot and the Uni (you have to ask for the quail egg). They also seem to have a good selection of sake, and our waitress was pretty knowledgeable about the entire sake menu. She recommended the Kikusui sake, and it was very good, crisp, and clean (just like the menu says it is). We also ordered ankimo, unagi, the the blue fin Toro special, the nigiri king salmon, and the nigiri Tasmanian trout. All pretty yummy, as well. It just feels like you can't go wrong here. And the cherry on top was that they played some Nujabes tracks all night long. Perfect end to a long week.

My hubby and I came here with his brother and his wife for dinner as we yelped "sushi". We decided to give it a try due to the 4.5 stars rated. We are sushi lovers, but his wife and I was somewhat disappointed that the sushi was not fresh with our order (James Roll, Citrus Roll, Salmon Belly only). The texture of the salmon belly, and himachi was too soft and the color was not bright. The salmon belly was not cut well as the skin was left on still. My hubby and his brother had off the menu omakase as they prefer the chef's picks. Their dish was much more appealing and tasteful than our rolls. They enjoyed it and like the sea trout. They even order extra on the side of it. The chef then gave my husband and his brother a complimentary order (don't recall what it is). The staff were friendly and service was good as far as refilling the drinks and checking in. The food was slow as my sister-in-law and I finished our rolls before the omakase came out for the guys. I guess it's hard to really rely on the rating of others as everyone has different taste and perception of what good sushi is to them.

Went to Daigo Sushi on a Sunday night with my sister, my dad, and my cousin for dinner. The place itself is quite small but we were seated right away and I was excited to try this place after seeing the pictures on yelp. We started off with: -Uni Nigiri -Unago Nigiri -Tokyo Cowboy Roll -Hamachi Maki Roll -Naruto Roll -Moriawase Sashimi -Creamy Scallop Roll -Dewazakura Sake Sampler After ordering all of this, I initially thought we ordered too much. But when the first roll came, the rolls were so unexpectedly small that we had to order an EXTRA three rolls because we just weren't full. The rolls were quite delicious and certainly fresh, but for the price we were paying for, I expected a lot more. In fact, even after we ordered three more rolls (Salmon Citrus Roll & 2 more special rolls) we still weren't completely full. Our entire meal came out to be about $137, and for that price I expect to be walking out of there so full that it hurts, but in fact that wasn't the case at all. Overall, the service and the sushi were good, but I would not come back here because I didn't think it was worth it at all.

This spot has changed many times over the few years and most often it has been a sushi joint. Came in here last night based on the reviews and of course the lovely yelp deal. First things first loved the fact that they used real crab in the california roll...I definitely don't mind paying more for the real stuff and its the only thing my son will eat. So to share was ordered the Naruto which was spicy tuna wrapped in cucumber, it was nice and refreshing but the spicy tuna had no spice to it. Then we had the tuna poki which was yummy. We also tried the james roll, creamy scallop and the dragon roll which I must say I quite liked how they fanned out the avocado on top and it was very creamy. Definitely will be coming back for my sushi fix since it is so close to my house.

Great and fresh sushi! It's a really small restaurant and the chef was alone the night we came, so the food came out pretty slow. This place is definitely good for sashimi lovers since there's barely any rolls. I will definitely be back!

This is by far the best sushi restaurant in all of San Francisco. By far! Everything is done with such great perfection skill and heart. The dishes are prepared beautifully. You can see the love in the craft that Chef Eric puts into each one of his meals. Not only is the food delicious but the sake is as well. Jesse obviously puts a lot of thought into the sake that he adds to the menu. I highly recommend Daigo Sushi as one of the top sushi restaurants in all of San Francisco. They may have only just opened, but it's easy to see that Daigo will soon out shine other sushi restaurants in the area. If you do stop by, don't be shy and chat up Chef Eric or Jesse, you'll see by talking to them they love what they do and it shows in their food and restaurant.

Wow. One of the best Japanese spots I've been to in SF! Usually, I get the regular bento boxes at Japanese restaurants, but you won't find any of that here. This is an authentic Japanese restaurant. The waiter is patient, and will explain to you the entire menu. One of his best recommendations was the Hamachi Shot. Make sure you ask for specials of the day. I believe they get their fresh shipments daily.

Love their unique rolls and specialties. However, I do like their service more. Often times, a popular restaurant like this tends to forget about being polite to customers. However, the staff here was polite and attentive. I truly enjoyed their recommendations and would definitely be back. Keep up the attention to detail not just on food but on your customers as well. We will be back!

We went around opening time and maybe that's why there was no one there, but the group of friends I was with. Anyways, we struggled to pick what to order but in the end we were satisfied. The service was excellent and the experience here was better than expected. I would recommend coming here and I would definitely come here when I want sushi! My favorite was the hanabi roll and everyone in the group agreed, so try it! Therefore, this is a good place to just catch up with friends or just for a simple meal.

Everything here makes my mouth water. The hamachi shot here is too die for, and you can't just have one. They have many unique sushi rolls here, and all their fish and seafood, is incredibly fresh. Before Daigo opened, many restaurants came and went, and I'm hoping that this place is here to stay. It is a great spot to bring friends, or have a date at. They open for lunch, and dinner, and the staff here is very friendly.

My husband and I came here on our lunch break for the Yelp deal and were pleasantly awed by the food and the service. Our server was attentive but not overbearing and took the time to answer any questions we had. I ordered the salmon citrus roll and my husband got the Tokyo Cowboy with a slight substitution on one of the ingredients (which they happily obliged) and both rolls were delicious. While mine was simple and light, his was the perfect pairing of "surf and turf" just as he likes it and their presentation of the rolls was beautiful. I think we've found our favorite sushi spot in the city!

I used the $30 for $15 deal they offered on Yelp. It was alright... I felt that it was a little on the pricey side but the extra $15 definitely helped us out. I ended up spending another $20 on top of the deal and came out full but not as full as I expected. Overall, my experience here was alright but I don't know if I'll be coming back!

Went here after waiting 10 minutes in an nearly empty Shimo, which was fairly unclean as well. Went to Daigo Sushi and so glad we did! Very friendly helpful staff, great rice tea, and oh, the fresh fish! We had a variety of sashimi (king salmon, amberjack) and some very inventive rolls. Well paced meal was surprisingly followed by an amazing hamachi shot, on the house no less. Fish was amazingly fresh and expertly presented Go here. Enjoy!

Won't lie... I live two blocks around the corner and see this place everyday. Friday night, didn't feel like making dinner and poked around Yelp to see where's some good places to eat. This place had a 15 for 30 coupon AND free ice cream! Who can pass that up?! And also 4.5 stars with around 50 ratings to boot. I was looking for something cheaper, but... you gotta do what you gotta do. As I was flying solo and living close, getting a seat and getting there was no problem. The gentleman beside me said he had to leave because his wife couldn't find parking :( It's a very purist restaurant. Moderate to small size menu dedicated to sushi. Reasonable prices as well for the quality you get. Don't blindly dip soy sauce on you sushi pieces! These nigiri pieces come 'sauced' already and have the perfect dallop of flavour to accompany the piece of fish! I had an omakase (chef's recommendation), unagi (this was really good), a grilled chilean seabass marinated in sake (this was really really good, and you really taste the sake) and the most interesting sushi of the night was the Citrus salmon - a california roll with salmon on top and paper thin slices of lemon on top. This was fantastic! I've never had anything like that before and was a great combination. There's also a sake tasting menu which I will try next time. Small place, good eats! Bonus - they also had Nujabes tunes playing in the background as well. Youtube that. Good stuff.

The service was friendly. Just a little slow. I've never had such paper thin slices of fish before at any sushi restaurant, so I'm kind of disappointed. The prices are average, but for what we got, definitely not worth it at all. Not coming back here again.

Yelp directed me to this restaurant only a few blocks from our house. We are moderate sushi fans and wanted a quick dinner before going out to the theater. We were pleasantly surprised by everything about Diago's but especially the sushi - clearly the best we've had in San Francisco. We spent a long time talking with Jessie, the owner and waiter - he directed us as to choices and was spot on. We will return - frequently.

I would have given this review 5 stars if it wasn't for how tiny the sushi rolls were. They were the smallest rolls I've ever seen at any sushi bar I've been to. The rolls tasted good but the size is not worth your money. I would go somewhere else if you are looking for something more filling or be prepared to spend a lot of money in order to feel full.

A solid neighborhood sushi spot. I don't go out of my way for it but if I am going through Richmond I'd stop or take it to go. Not too pricey and inside is clean but not posh

What a surprise this unassuming sushi place is! Relaxed ambiance, kind servers, delicious sushi (and beer and saki)! On top of it all, this shop is not packed like sardines, even on a Friday night...which I can only assume is because they are way out in the avenues. Would surely return again to sample more fishes! And beer. And sake.

My husband and I always order sushi from here. We have found a lot of sushi around this area is not worth spending money on as it is typically stale and overpriced. That being said, Daigo sushi is always fresh and delicious. You are definitely getting good value for your money. We typically order our usual spicy tuna and salmon nigiri and then a third order of something new. We have yet to be disappointed.

My husband and I came here for lunch and we're thrilled with this new addition to the neighborhood. It's owned by 2 young guys (Jesse, who did the serving, and the sushi chef himself whose name I didn't catch). It's a tiny corner place with simple, clean decor. We ordered the sashimi lunch special, which was salad and 11 pieces of the freshest and most tender fish we've had in awhile, all beautifully sliced and presented. After chatting a bit with Jesse, we were impressed with their thoughtful and clear vision for what they want this place to be. They have a unique sake selection, take special care with little personal touches such as making their own low-sodium soy sauce and going the extra mile with minute details such as marinating ikura before serving it (apparently the standard preparation is to serve it up straight n' salty). It was an altogether very pleasant and delicious lunch, and really refreshing to meet young restaurateurs who are passionate about their food. We're glad to see that they also offer online ordering and delivery, so we'll be visiting this restaurant again soon!

My boyfriend and I live in the apartment building behind Daigo. We ran into our landlord and he told us we should head over because the restaurant was having their grand opening. Turned out they were having a private grand opening but when we walked in the owner, Jesse, let us sit and eat anyways! He was so sweet and attentive, giving great suggestions for both sushi and sake. I adore that their menu is so small because it means they specialize in those dishes. I would much rather pick from a few phenomenal items than a 3 page menu of mediocrity. The two rolls that stood out as being especially fantastic were the Tokyo Cowboy and, shocking to me, the Golden Veggie Roll. I usually NEVER get veggie rolls but my boyfriend isn't a big fan of fish so the Cowboy and Veggie rolls were my showing gratitude for him going to get sushi with me and WOW! I have dreams about that veggie roll. As soon as I have some extra money I'm treating myself to another great dinner date at this restaurant.

Decided to try this place since it had good reviews and it's in my hood. Boy! was it a disappointment. We ordered a few items and was not impressed at all. Had the beef tataki which is described as seared beef, it was dried up and not tasty at all. The poke was tasty but the order was definitely smaller than most places, there was maybe a tablespoon of small cubed tuna in the order. Next came the spider roll, the crab was cold and chewy not freshly fried like I'm use to. Citrus salmon was the best, tasty and fresh. There are way better sushi places in the area so no need to return to this one. Had hoped this place would be good and sadly disappointed.

I came here for dinner last week on the day of my birthday with another friend and I'm glad we chose this place because it really made my night. I must say the service was extraordinary and I usually find it difficult for me to say that. The waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We arrived just before it got busier and even when it was busy, the waiter was still really attentive, in a positive way. It was my first time drinking sake and my friend wasn't quite familiar either, so we asked for help with the fairly large selection of sakes. We ordered what the waiter suggested and he even gave us tips on drinking sake, which was much appreciated for a beginner. As for sushi, we ordered the saba nigiri, dragon roll, spider roll, and the aburi saba roll (from the special sushi menu?). All were very well made and flavorful and the price was reasonable for the quality and portion. &Dear Waiter, thank you for the ginger ice cream and wishing me a happy birthday. The ice cream was delicious and very unique. I definitely left the place smiling and would love to go back again.

went there with a yelp deal. still would not go back. the portions are small. the sashimi bowl or w/e had paper thin slices of butchered fish. sure did not order the carpaccio the experience would definitely be different if you get to bite into a nice, big slice of fish this may just be a personal thing but the waiter said "sorry for the wait" every time he brought out a dish. there wasn't really a wait because there was only one other table. why can't he say "thank you for waiting" or something also tried the naruto roll ppl were making a big deal about. it was ok. thought there should be one more piece for the price

I went there couple times. Small, but friendly. I don't eat sashimi but I love rolls. Every time I would order California roll which they made by real crab meats. Last time I went there I fell in love with creamy scallop roll. All the ingredients tastes fresh and high quality. I strongly recommend their ice cream for desserts.

We're converts. Fast delivery on a Friday night -- we called a little after 5:30, and our order was delivered in 30 minutes. All of our sushi was fresh and tasty. Friendly phone service when we called in the order. Daigo will be our new "go to" place for delivery.

Place is super small. Make reservations. Staff is friendly, but a little slow. Not bad at all. It satisfied my tummy, but it's nothing special. Hamachi Carpaccio-Must get. Very fresh and yummy Ankimo-very good here. Give you a decent amount Sashmi-pretty fresh Creamy Scallop Roll with soy paper, avocado, inari, cucumber and scallop salad-this was ok They had a special called James roll w/ shrimp tempura and asparagus-this was good Got a fried tuna roll-this was only ok. Too over cooked. The ebi and raw scallop was super fresh. Just melts in my mouth.

This place has good fresh fish - and the hamachi kama was pretty awesome. The miso soup was also quite good. Compared to equivalent quality sushi restaurants in SF the price per piece is similar while the nigiri sizes are significantly smaller. Still, it's a pretty good place and if you are in the area it is worth checking out.

Daigo Sushi didn't live up to my expectation. Maybe they were having an "off" night, but I was a little bewildered at its high rating. We ordered the Golden Veggie Roll, Naruto Roll, and Salmon Citrus Roll. I was fond of the Salmon Citrus Roll; the other two were only okay. The veggie roll seemed to be sliced too thin to hold its contents; it fell apart too easily. The tuna in the Naruto roll was tasty but overwhelmed the other contents. The main problem was that our rolls took way too long to arrive. We got the first roll quickly, and then we waited and waited... I worried that we had been forgotten. Finally we politely asked how much longer it would be. The waiters weren't attentive. There is a very large sake menu. I had a sip of the regular warm sake and was pleased. Interestingly, I was most impressed by my wine (I don't remember which kind it was), which was exceptionally smooth and tasty.

I think the specials are definitely the must tries. The fort bragg uni was sooooooooooo good. My fav place for uni nigiri thus far. Can't wait to go back. Parking is hideous around the area though. Definitely gives Sushi Sam's a run for their money.

Hands down, my favorite sushi bar in San Francisco. Daigo deserves its near-perfect Yelp rating for getting all the little details right. The fish is perfect, the service is charming, the sake selection is astounding, and the creativity belies the restaurant's humble appearances. For sushi aficionados looking for a neighborhood setting, this is a wonderful place to linger with close friends over superb food. My husband and I have made Daigo our "just for us" go-to. No need to dress up. We just show up, order the omakase, drink what the chefs pour (seasonal sake? Yes, please), and let the magic unfold. So far, they've impressed us every single time.

A bit out of the way, but with some of the freshest fish in town, Daigo is certainly worth the trek. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered an assortment of sushi and sashimi and were very pleased with the freshness and quality of the fish. Prices are reasonable and they offer a wallet-friendly omikase option, if you are so inclined. The sushi chefs and service staff are very friendly and contribute to a pleasant dining experience. Daigo has been one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the city in recent memory and I'm excited to go back!

Great food and even better service!!! My boyfriend and I had a spontaneous trip to San Francisco and decided on this place for a late Valentine's Day dinner (a decision that I definitely am glad we made)! We had made dinner reservations at 7, but arrived late around 7:30 so our table was no longer available. We decided to wait anyway. Jesse (who seemed to be the manager), invited us in for sake and edamame. Throughout the night, he was extremely kind and helpful, always serving with a genuine smile! It was the best service I have ever received at a restaurant. We had hamachi shots, the Tokyo Cowboy, Salmon Citrus, Baked Salmon and more. Everything was great. The baked salmon was my favorite! We also got complimentary green tea ice cream, which was also, not surprisingly, delicious. I loved everything about this place and will definitely be back! If you haven't had a dining experience here, you're missing out!

This place has the best sushi by far at a reasonable price. For me a good Nigiri Sushi is how soft the fish is when you first put it into your mouth. The freshness means that the fish should melt perfectly into your mouth. The rice is padded nicely but not too much so that it slowly guides the fish into you happy place. I tried some of the rolls but mostly remember the Toro Sampler. The Sampler had four types of Toro. All of which was amazing. This is definitely my new sushi spot behind Zushi Puzzle, and Yum Yum Fish. Be prepared to wait in line once word gets out about this place. The good thing is that you are in Richmond land so parking is easy to find. Service was good. Overall a great experience!

I went here on a Sunday afternoon and close to their closing time so we were the only ones there. I ordered Tuna Poke Salad, Baked Salmon Roll, and one of the rolls they had on their specials board (I think it was called a James roll). The food was prepared and served pretty quickly. And *gasp*, the fish they used tasted fresh.

Best sushi in the Outer/Inner Richmond that I have tried. Went for the first time on a date, armed with a Yelp deal. The place was packed but the manager make sure to come outside and get us when a table was ready. When some other guppy customers who came in after us got angry at him for seating us "before them," he stood his ground and handled the situation well. They got seated at the sushi bar and flashed us some dirty looks which made the meal even better. The appetizers and sushi itself were super good. The filet mignon appetizer was perfect: good quality, lightly seared and rare. The one roll that stood out among all the sushi I've ever had was the Salmon Citrus roll. Snow crab and asparagus inside with salmon and a razor-thin slice of lemon on the outside - perfect. The other rolls we had - of the spicy tuna/hamachi variety - were great too . Really good and well-priced beer and sake selection, as well. Glad to find this place and will definitely be coming back.

This place is pretty good. I came here twice in a month because I was craving their hamachi shot. I would say this place is very creative and unique with their sushi. They put their heart and soul into the food and their ingredients are very fresh. I would go again for sure

First sushi in sf strangely enough. Soooo fresh. Major foodgasms. Plus a sushi chef that's going to crank out small plates and stops to say hey..... You eat anything right? ?? :)

Hmmm...where should begin? Well, when I walked into the place, no one welcomed me. Place wasn't even crowded to be ignored. The chefs and the servers just stared at me. Not very welcoming. What made it worst was that after I sat down, someone else walked in and was welcomed in Japanese. My bf came in first so he chose to sit at the bar which was fine with me. He already got his cup of tea. I was still waiting for someone to come ask me for my choice of drink. Sat there for 5 mins and no one came to ask me. Finally, a girl server came and asked us for our orders. I asked her if I can have a cup of tea first, just to give them a hint that I've been waiting! After scanning the menu, we gave in my order to the server. Here's what we'd ordered... Moriawase sashimi - 2 pcs each of hamachi, shiro maguro, sake, walu, and Saba. I don't eat tuna unless is marinated so I asked to substitute that with Saba instead. All the fishes tasted normal. Nothing really wowed me. Tuna poki salad - portion was small but tasted good. Wasn't really spicy. Wish the portion was bigger. ): Beef tataki - now this one was bad. It had no taste. I ate like 2 pcs and that was it. The bf didn't really like it either, but ate the rest since he was hungry. The sauce that accompanied the beef didn't really help much. Naruto - tasted ok, couldn't really pick up the piece because of the cucumber that wrapped around the mixed fishies didn't seal the piece. I've actually had a similar roll from another restaurant and didn't have a problem picking the piece up with chopsticks. Baked salmon roll - looked like a lion king roll. Cali roll topped with salmon, tobiko and special sauce. The sauce wasn't that special. Wished the sauce was a lil spicier. The taste was only alright since I've had better at other places. Toro tasting - contained one piece each of shiro maguro toro, sake toro, hamachi toro, and blue fin toro. This was actually the best part of the meal! Then again, how can you go wrong with toro? This dish is actually served per person, so we ordered another set of it. The price was very reasonable. $17 for a set of toro tasting! Can't beat that price! The bf liked it very much! Ankimo nigiri - a disappointment! Didn't have that taste that I was looking for. The texture wasn't as firm as how other restaurants prepared it. I've had better! Overall, food was edible but nothing spectacular. After reading all the good reviews of Daigo, I had high hopes for this place. I drove all the way from Daly City to richmond district just to be disappointed, not to mention that parking isn't so easy on clement! Though my teacup was always filled, tea was actually luke warm. Heard both server and a chef asked the couple who sat next to us at the bar if everything was ok. I was pretty annoyed after hearing that because we didn't get the same treatment. What bothered me the most was one of the chef's nails. Chefs are suppose to have short nails especially if you're handling raw food! Anything will get trapped underneath your nails! Very unprofessional! Also, The place is rather small. If you plan to sit at the bar, I suggest you not unless you like the servers or other patrons bumping into you while you're eating. The cash register was literally right behind where my bf and I were sitting. Also, to get to the restroom, you have to get through between the bar seats and the cash register and into the kitchen. I can't say I'll come back ever again. If the food and service were good, I wouldn't mind driving out of my way just to have a nice meal. Sadly, this place just didn't meet my expectations.
